Job Description

About the Clinical Leadership Fellowship

The Clinical Leadership Fellowship (CLF) is a 12-month program designed to develop the next generation of physician leaders in quality, population health, and health care administration. Fellows learn the skills necessary to advance hospital system and facility leadership strategic priorities, and receive direct mentorship as they lead and participate in quality improvement projects within the facility.

Fellows will spend 70% of their time on fellowship activities and on supporting the strategic initiatives of the facility in which they are placed. Fellows will also allot 30% to delivering care in their clinical specialty.

Job Description/Responsibilities:

In addition to their clinical duties, the Clinical Leadership Fellow will play an important role in advancing and managing the strategic initiatives of their facility. This which may include project / program management, stakeholder coordination, and analysis and execution/implementation of various project aspects.

In addition, the Fellow will be expected to participate in all fellowship activities, including:
  • Attending didactic learning sessions, such as: Quality improvement trainings; Bi-monthly Speakers Series with local and national healthcare leaders and experts; Leadership sessions based on National Clinical Scholars Program; and a book club focused on leadership skills.
  • Participating in various central office and facility leadership and administrative meetings
  • Leading a quality improvement or population health orientated project at a Heath + Hospitals facility, mentored by a CLF Faculty and/or facility-delineated


Minimum Qualifications
1. A Baccalaureate Degree from an accredited college or university in Health Administration, Public Administration or approved related program; and,
2. Six years of full-time, paid experience of progressively responsible level in hospital administration with particular emphasis on development and evaluation of health care delivery services; or,
3. A Master's Degree from an accredited college or university in Hospital or Health Administration, Health Care Planning, Public Health, Administrative Medicine, Business Administration, Public Administration or approved related program; and,
4. Five years of full-time, paid experience as indicated in (2); or,
5. A satisfactory equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Department Preferences

  • Any graduate of an ACGME-accredited residency program or current resident on track to graduate from an ACGME-accredited residency program by start of fellowship program
  • By start of program, have a current New York State medical and DEA license
  • Submit three letters of recommendation, as outlined in Part D of the application
  • Submit an up-to-date Curriculum Vitae (CV)
  • The ideal candidate should:
    • Demonstrate a commitment to health care quality improvement, health care administration, or population health
    • Possess an interest in aspects of health care administration
    • Commit to participating in all activities throughout the 12-month program, including leading a substantial quality improvement or population health oriented project important to the sponsoring facility
