Job Summary:

The Section of Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition of the University of Colorado School of Medicine (CU SOM) and the Digestive Health Institute of Children's Hospital Colorado (CHCO) are seeking a BC/BE pediatric gastroenterologist with expertise in Neurogastroenterology and Motility for a faculty position to be located at Children's Hospital Colorado on the Anschutz Medical Campus in the Denver Metro area. The candidate must be thoroughly trained and experienced in pediatric gastroenterology with a focus on Neurogastroenterology and Motility, general GI and GI motility diagnostic procedures, and qualify for appointment at the Senior Instructor or Assistant Professor rank as a Clinical-Educator in the CU SOM. Primary responsibilities will include outpatient clinical evaluation and management of patients with pediatric gastrointestinal disease with a focus on Neurogastroenterology and Motility, inpatient consultations and performance of GI procedures.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Patient care in Pediatric Gastrointestinal Diseases at Children's Hospital Colorado (CHCO) and its network of care locations and outreach clinics, including inpatient attending and outpatient clinics, as well as performing the full range of gastrointestinal procedures including motility testing.
  • Provide consultative and call support services for CHCO and affiliated healthcare partners.
  • Education and teaching of pediatric residents, pediatric gastroenterology fellows, students, and others
  • Attend relevant conferences and continuing education opportunities
  • Attend periodic Anschutz faculty meetings via teleconference or in-person


Work Location:

Onsite - this role is expected to work onsite and is located in Aurora, Colorado and possible satellite locations in the metro area.

Faculty work closely with all pediatric subspecialties and allied health professionals both inpatient serving our 400+ bed hospital and outpatient serving Colorado and surrounding states. While our faculty lead many multidisciplinary programs including the Gastrointestinal Eosinophilic Disease Program, Inflammatory Bowel Disease Program, Intestinal Rehabilitation Program, and Polyposis Clinic, the physician taking this role will work in the well-established Neurogastroenterology and Motility (NGM) Program. The NGM Program provides comprehensive care for pediatric patients with complex problems with a multidisciplinary approach including a team of two pediatric neurogastroenterologists, an APP, pelvic floor physical therapists, occupational therapist, and pediatric gastroenterology psychologists. The NGM Program also performs a wide variety of gastroenterology motility studies including anorectal manometry, esophageal manometry, colonic manometry, antroduodenal manometry and EndoFlip.

The Section includes many of the leading researchers in pediatric gastroenterology, hepatology and nutrition in the country. Research in the Section bridges across basic sciences, translational medicine, and clinical research related to pediatric gastrointestinal and liver diseases. Ongoing laboratory research includes investigations of the roles of cell signaling, mitochondrial dysfunction, and oxidative stress in hepatocyte injury in the cholestatic and fatty liver; the role of innate immunity in parenteral-nutrition-associated liver injury; characterization of the pathogenesis of biliary atresia in a mouse model; the role of eosinophils in cellular injury and remodeling of the esophagus and intestines; vaccine development for diabetes prevention; mechanisms of immunologic injury in a mouse model of celiac disease; and mechanisms of injury and regeneration of the enteric nervous system with one of the few NIH-supported neurogastroenterology and motility base science labs.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

  • Completed fellowship in Pediatric Gastroenterology at RRC-approved fellowship (or equivalent) by the time of hire date
  • MD (or equivalent) degree and American Board of Pediatrics Board Certified in Pediatrics
  • Board Eligible or certified in Pediatric Gastroenterology
  • Additional training and interest in the field of Neurogastroenterology and Motility


Condition of Employment:

  • Must successfully pass a drug test through Children's Hospital Colorado
  • Must be willing and able to pass a national criminal background check

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Two or more years of clinical experience.
  • Publications in peer-reviewed journals in pediatric gastroenterology or related fields.
  • Completion of Pediatric Neurogastroenterology and Motility Fellowship training by the time of hire date


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of all pediatric GI disorders
  • Demonstrated skills in the full gamut of pediatric GI endoscopic and other procedures
  • Demonstrated skills in the performance and interpretation of pediatric GI motility tests
  • Excellent teaching and education skills, knowledge, communication skills, and training of pediatric gastroenterology
  • Demonstrated expertise in quality improvement projects.

The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as HIRING RANGE:

$207,690-$221,338.
