The Sensor Systems and Nondestructive Evaluation (NDE) Technology team is comprised of engineers, scientists, and technicians who develop sensor systems and inspection methodologies and perform and monitor inspections to assess the serviceability of a variety of structures from deep sea to deep space.
Objectives of this Role:
- Coordinate inspection operations for multiple large-scale fabrication efforts for a variety of industries and application areas.
- Audit and monitor third-party inspection groups during inspection operations to ensure necessary certifications are met and procedures are followed.
- Develop code-compliant inspection procedures for the petrochemical, aerospace, pressure vessel, and nuclear power application areas.
- Assist in the innovation of new inspection techniques for emerging inspection technologies, and perform conventional and novel inspection tasks in a variety of inspection methods.
- Support research and development efforts that are the central mission of the Sensor Systems and NDE Technology Section.
Daily and Monthly Responsibilities:
- Interface with customers to identify NDE requirements, prepare and/or approve inspection procedures, coordinate and/or perform inspections, interpret inspection results, and prepare formal reports.
- Develop novel and innovative inspection methods, techniques, and collect data.
- Coordinate with NDT vendors to perform inspections and resolve issues related to processes, procedures, and equipment.
- Attend required production meetings, brief project teams on work progress, and coordinate scheduling.
- Maintain necessary qualifications for certification in multiple methods, including documentation of work experience.
- Acquire additional certifications and credentials as required for projects and career development.
- Support our internal ISO9001 quality system and participate in regular audits.
- Maintain NDT inspection records in an organized manner.
- Support Institute quality and environment health and safety (EHS) directives and requirements.
- Assist in the creation of cost estimates in support of proposals.
- Advise on advanced technology in non-destructive instrumentation and inspection principles, processes, and techniques.
Requirements:
- Requires an Associates degree in nondestructive testing or related degree field with 15-20 years of experience with continued education/certifications.
- 15 years: Experience in the field of nondestructive testing
- Experience using automated inspection systems is preferred. Familiarity with production environments and maintenance programs in multiple industries such as power plants, pressure vessels, pipelines, aerospace, and ships is preferred.
- Experience with MS Word, PowerPoint, and Excel is required. Experience preparing inspection procedures, includes those based on codes, standards and contractual documents is required. Willingness to travel occasionally in support of projects is required.
- Must be able to communicate effectively in both oral and written formats. Must be able to work within a team and individually with little direct supervision and direction. Experience working on multiple projects simultaneously is preferred.
- A valid/clear driver's license is required.
