Pay

This position is a Non-Exempt position at pay grade 105.

Attendance

Non-rotating 40-hour work week, Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm; must be available to work additional hours as needed.

Overview

The Billing Specialist Position is responsible for ensuring bills are accurately billed up to approximately 100,000 residential/commercial customers monthly. They will provide customer service which aligns with the City of Corpus Christi mission.

Responsibilities

• Check for accuracy of bill prior to file upload

• Detect abnormal meter readings

• Determine if work order needs to be submitted

• Manually work final bills as needed

• Submit for inspection on unauthorized accounts

• Assist internal/external customers on bill discrepancies

• Provide feedback to upper management team for escalated issues

• Make necessary changes to ensure for bill output accuracy

• Submit work order in IPS while reviewing if unusual abnormalities are seen then manually input when work order has been completed

• Manually process pre and post bill run Ad hoc reporting to ensure accuracy

• Work additional process called "re-reads" and complete manual entries upon finishing investigation

• Double check unusually high usage and research and provide resolution to abnormalities

• Check error messages and make manual corrections

• Compile account histories of consumption patterns and assist with disputed bills

• Validate nightly bills runs to ensure rates are appropriately applied and ensure the process is being pushed to completion

• Tap Process/Account Services Review for set up accuracy

• Troubleshoot and test the system during rate changes and implementation of billing methods

• Calculate billing based on readings for large volume accounts

• Research for leak adjustments and apply to customer accounts, if warranted

• Process final bills, adjust disputed bills, manually process metered waste accounts, manually process large volume accounts BOD/TSS calculations

• Process Backflow charges, back billing charges, unauthorized usage billing adjustment charges, and deposit adjustments

• Communicate effectively with customers and co-workers in person, by phone, and in writing

• Effectively respond to a stressful or high-pressure detailed work configurations

• Demonstrate ability to understand and carry out complex oral and written instructions

• Use sound judgement when reviewing accounts

• Work efficiently in a fast paced environment where priorities change quickly, work in a multi-tasking department

• Maintain a professional appearance and attire

• Establish and maintain effective working relationship s with all levels of management, City officials, and internal/external customers

• May be asked to perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

• Requires a High School Diploma/GED

• Minimum of two (2) years of experience

Basis of Rating

Application review and the City may also conduct additional skill assessment tests, in addition to the panel interview.
