Job Description

Gotham Health Chief Nursing Officer is responsible for overseeing and coordinating Gotham Health Nursing Services. The CNO will work to align the nursing staff with the mission, values and vision of the organization, ensuring all nursing staff work at the top of license, have varied and meaningful work and adhere to best practices and standards in nursing and patient care. The CNO will work with Gotham leadership to establish continuing education programs and ladders for career advancement. The CNO is part of a collaborative team and must work well with the Chief Operating Officer, Chief Medical Officer and Chief Financial Officer.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Nursing Standards
  • Remain current in advance nursing practice and standards. Communicate with nursing leaders to ensure that they are current in best practices and knowledgeable about emerging trends of nursing.
  • Develop patient-care programs in collaboration with population health programs underway at H+H.
  • Work closely with site leads to ensure that these evidence based programs are implemented and demonstrate improved clinical outcomes.
  • Work closely with Regional Directors of Nursing to ensure that nurse leadership completes annual competency assessments for all nursing staff.
  • Develop nursing education programs for Gotham nursing staff and nursing career ladder.
  • Work with administrative and provider leadership to fully utilize the competencies and skills of nurses within the site.
  • Write, review and update nursing policies and procedures.
  • Works with administration to develop staff models in relation to each specialty.
  • Develops a system of continuing evaluation of nursing service provided for patients.
  • Works creatively in initiating and participating in studies and research projects.
  • Develops, coordinates and evaluates nursing services, practice and education programs.
  • Oversee Gotham Health PCMH implementation and certification.
  • Oversee Gotham Health Infection Control Program
  • Oversee Gotham Health Patient Safety Program.
  • Represent Gotham Health for Emergency Preparedness and/or Management.
  • Work closely with Gotham's Director of labor relations to address labor issues at Gotham sites as it pertains to nursing.
  • Develop protocols for infection control across Gotham Health System. Work closely with site leads (CMO's) to ensure protocols are in place and monitored (equipment, education materials, training, etc.).
  • Liaison with System CNE office, represent Gotham Health to system CNO, facilitate implementation of initiatives to Gotham from system CNE.
  • Review scorecard (metrics pertaining to nursing) with site leads and regionals, assist with strategies to improve metrics and/or outcomes.
  • Develop communication path with DON's to discuss nursing issues across Gotham Health and create a nursing community for sharing best practices and solving of shared problems.

Governance, Leadership & Management
  • Participate in Gotham Board meetings.
  • Participate in H+H and Gotham quality improvement activities, board reports and projects.
  • Ensure compliance with Article 28 standards as well as FQHC requirements.
  • Develop/disseminate nursing dashboards for data driven management, oversight and improvement.
  • Participate in strategic planning activities.


Minimum Qualifications
1. Valid New York State license and current registration to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse (RN) issued by the New York State Education Department (NYSED); and,
2. A Masters Degree in Nursing Administration or a related field; and,
3. Eight (8) years of satisfactory nursing experience, six (6) years of which must have been in administration or management; or,
4. A satisfactory equivalent of education, training and experience. However, all candidates must have at least a Baccalaureate Degree or higher in Nursing, and be licensed and currently registered to practice as an RN in New York State.

Department Preferences
• Current NYS RN license
• Current BLS certification
• Master's Degree in Nursing, Hospital Administration, Business Administration, or similar degree
• Minimum of five (5) years' leadership experience in ambulatory care setting in a leadership position .
• Must be able to demonstrate through work history an ability work as part of a high performing team
• Data driven and result-oriented .
• Ability to operate in a high-pressure, fast paced environment.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills .
• Specific knowledge in nursing theory and practice .
• Microsoft Office proficiency, especially Word, PowerPoint and intermediate Excel skills .
• Sense of humor is highly desirable
