Job Description

PURPOSE OF POSITION:

To operate an efficient, reliable telecommunications system for the benefit of the hospital's patients as well as the surrounding community.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Operate the NEC PBX 2400 IPX system using the X-Tend directoiy computer terminals/consoles to transfer incoming, outgoing, and intra -system calls
• Page physicians and key personnel via short/long range pagers, cellular and the overhead public address system
• Maintain house staff information, on-call schedules and emergency master schedules.

Respond to and activate all emergency alarms (CODE BLUE, CODE RED, TRAUMA, OXYGEN, RAPID RESPONSE, BEST AND INTERNAL/EXTERNAL ALARMS).

Receive returned pagers and change pager / cellular batteries as needed
• Perform light clerical duties, such as filing.

Minimum Qualifications
1. A high school diploma or its educational equivalent.
2. 6 months - 2 years experience in the operations of a telephone switchboard and or any equivalent combination of experience or training.
3. Six (6) months of full-time satisfactory clerical experience and/or experience interacting with the public, such as processing sales; taking, processing, and delivering orders; obtaining and dispensing information; listening to and resolving customers concerns, problems, and complaints; and/or performing related customer service activities.

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT
Telephone switchboard, which include multiple telephone lines with voice messaging technology; copier, fax machine, personal computer, LEP equipment and other general office equipment.

Additional Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
• Considerable knowledge of telephone switchboard operations and call handling procedures.
• Considerable knowledge of\ocation, functions and personnel within the Hospital facility.
• Working knowledge of office terminology, procedures and ALL telecommunication equipment
• Ability to maintain simple clerical records neatly and accurately.
• Ability to understand and follow simple oral and written instructions.
• Pleasant speaking voice, tact and courtesy with the demand of the position.
• Ability in dealing diplomatically with the public under stressful conditions.
• Knowledge of general customer service principles (Must be courteous and polite).
• Excellent communicative skills.
• Ability to positively interact with the public for extended period of time.
• Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
• Able to make sound decisions quickly.
• Able to apply self -initiative to emergency situations.
