Job Description

Purpose of Position:

Under the direct supervision of the Coordinating Manager/designee, performs clerical duties and supervises subordinate clerks.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Follows policies and procedures as outlined by the New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH) WIC Program, the New York State Department of Agriculture, and Lincoln Medical and Mental Health Center
  • Initiates the certification process by correctly determining participant's income qualification, residency, and identification for eligibility in the WIC Program, utilizing the New York Women, Infants, and Children's (NYWIC) electronic system
  • Assists participants in obtaining the WIC2Go app to streamline their shopping experience.
  • Processes Verification of Certification (VOC) requests
  • Scans pertinent documents into NYWIC
  • Schedules WIC participants for certification appointments and reschedules missed appointments.
  • Follows safety protocols by locking the door to the Distribution Area
  • Answers telephones in a professional manner, interviewing callers so that correct information is disseminated
  • Calls participants to remind them of appointments, as assigned
  • Maintains participant confidentiality by following HIPAA
  • Greets participants, and co-workers and courteously answers the telephone, directing calls appropriately. Uses AIDET (Address the participant using eye contact, introduce oneself, Describe the process that will take place, Estimate the waiting time, and Thank the person for using our program) when addressing participants.
  • Performs evening and Saturday rotations as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications
1. A high school diploma or its educational equivalent; and
2. Six (6) months of full-time satisfactory clerical experience and/or experience interacting with the public, such as processing sales; taking, processing, and delivering orders; obtaining and dispensing information; listening to and resolving customers concerns, problems, and complaints; and/or performing related customer service activities.
