JOB SUMMARY: The Communications Coordinator is a key role in the communications department. This role is the primary liaison for team credentials and facilitating media hospitality efforts at American Airlines Center.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Supports the Communications Department with the daily management and execution of media requests for players, coaches, and front office executives
  • Manages the department's credentialing process for media at American Airlines Center
  • Directs all media hospitality efforts on game days
  • Manages game day Communications staff
  • Responsible for the research, creation, and updating of the game preview email for all regular season and postseason games
  • Maintains departmental distribution lists for local, national, and team specific media
  • Assists with all written material produced by the department
  • Responsible for producing and distributing postgame notes and quotes after home games
  • Edit and contribute to the media guide and postseason guide
  • Manages the team's digital photo library
  • Compiles daily news clips that are distributed to the organization
  • Proactively builds positive relationships with local and national media
  • Ability to generate and pitch story ideas about all facets of the Stars organization including players, hockey operations, executive team, business and marketing initiatives, the Dallas Stars Foundation, Alumni Association, Children's Health StarCenters, Multisport facilities, and Comerica Center
  • Serves as team communications contact on road trips


JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's degree or relevant experience
  • A minimum of 1-3 years of experience working with a professional or collegiate sports team in media or public relations
  • Ability to travel to select games throughout the NHL season
  • Excellent written skills and ability to serve as an expert copy editor
  • Ability to build strong working relationships across the entire organization and motivated self-starter
  • Ability to work well in a team environment and produce the highest level of work under tight deadlines
  • Proactive in helping look to improve departmental procedures and tasks to better serve the organization and media constituents
  • An expert problem solver with a positive attitude to adapt to daily challenges
  • The ability to maintain the highest level of professionalism
  • The ability and desire to work long hours, weekends and holidays
  • Strong computer skills - including all Microsoft Office software programs, Adobe InDesign and Zoom.


Physical Demands and Working Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, walk, sit, use hands and fingers, handle objects and office tools, reach, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, talk, and hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25/40/50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The employee is exposed to an arena environment, with noise levels usually quite loud. The employee is exposed to an office environment, with noise levels usually moderate.
