We are seeking a self-motivated, creative, and professional employee who will provide a variety of services and support to our department. Your responsibilities will include 1) graphic design, 2) social media content creation, 3) videography/photography, 4) web update assistance, 5) promotional distribution, and 6) general promotions/other duties. The Communications Student Assistant is responsible for modifying, producing, and distributing branded material in keeping with established communication strategies that contribute to the success of organizational objectives and incentives. This position will implement ongoing updates to office web pages, carry out social media campaigns and audits, and modify/design promotional graphics as needed. Some weekends and evenings are required.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Graphic Design - design and modify promotional graphics for programming, events, and recruitment opportunities
  • Social Media - implement trending advertising methods for existing social media platforms, content creation, coordinate social media promotion efforts with other staff; track, gather, summate, and compare social media metrics
  • Videography/Photography - event/promotional videography and photography
  • Web update assistance
  • Promotional Distribution - promotional material distribution and archiving including Convo slides, Splash Page, university-wide digital signage, ECOG, and Dropbox
  • Responsible for university-owned marketing and communication assets; this includes but is not limited to, maintenance, and assembly training for banners and branded kiosks
  • Review, analyze, and modify programming systems including but not limited to Qualtrics, testing, debugging, and implementation to support effective user interface
  • Update WebDT weekly
  • Implement video distribution strategies for all digital platforms (social media, YouTube, microsite, etc.)
  • Assist with the development of concepts and communication strategies
  • Administration assistance and other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS AND CREDENTIALS
Minimum Qualifications
  • LU Graduate Student
  • Available to work 18-20 per week
  • Flexible Schedule; some weekends and evenings required
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Strong computer, administrative, and organizational skills
  • Working knowledge of Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator
  • Proficient in the use of social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, TikTok)
  • Ideal applicant will give a minimum of a 1-year commitment to the position

  • Standing, walking, and climbing stairs are occasionally required to move about the building.
  • Handle materials, reach overhead, kneel, or stoop to conduct business.
  • Regularly lift 30 or fewer pounds.


WORKING CONDITIONS
Work Environment

The working environment in which one will typically perform the essential functions of this position is a climate-controlled office setting. It is well-lighted, and the noise level is moderate.

Driving Requirements

Use of one's personal vehicle (or LU vehicles) is required for travel in the performance of the essential functions of this position. Proof of a valid Virginia driver's license, an acceptable DMV record, and liability insurance is required.
