DESCRIPTION

The Herbert Wertheim School of Public Health and Human Longevity Science is dedicated to creating and promoting public health innovations to advance equity, justice, and wellbeing for all. The School focuses on health, diversity, inclusion, and social equity in everything we do. We believe this starts in the workplace, where we actively strive to ensure a sense of belonging for everyone and honor the idea that through our differences, we are better together. In working to fulfill that vision, we are comprised of more than 125 primary appointed faculty and academics, 200 staff members, and 25 secondary appointed faculty and provide mentorship and instruction to 700+ BSPH undergraduate major students and 225+ postgraduate students across six degree programs as well as a clinical residency. We conduct research and instruction in public health disciplines such as Biostatistics and Bioinformatics, Climate & Environmental Health, Community Health Services & Preventive Medicine, Epidemiology, Global Health, Health Behavior, Health Equity & Justice, Health Policy, Public Mental Health & Substance Use, and Technology & Precision Health, totaling ~$125M in grants and contracts and house five research service cores. We engage in research and teaching collaborations across the University and the community at-large. Partnerships with the community and with health agencies are fundamental to the School.

The Herbert Wertheim School of Public Health and Human Longevity Science at the University of California, San Diego. The goals of the institute include:

The position is for a Native American Community Coordinator who will serve as the key liaison between the project team and Native American partners from the Kumeyaay Santa Ysabel Band of Iipay Nation and the San Pasqual Band of Mission Indians of the Kumeyaay Nation and other Tribes across California. The role involves building and maintaining collaborative relationships with community leaders, organizations, and individuals, understanding community needs, and assisting in the development of culturally sensitive programs and services. The ideal candidate will be knowledgeable about Kumeyaay cultural heritage and committed to fostering collaboration and mutual respect.

The Community Coordinator will learn to gather and assemble feedback from the Native American community on issues related to public health. This role involves engaging with community members to understand their concerns, identify specific challenges, and collect data on potential solutions. The program will use this feedback to inform and guide the development of targeted programs and evaluations that are culturally relevant and effective, ensuring that the community concerns and insights are integrated into the program's framework. Additional responsibilities will include supporting the scheduling and organization of meetings between UCSD staff and community partners, ensuring these meetings are culturally appropriate and facilitate meaningful dialogue. The coordinator will support the Program Analyst in arranging and organizing focus groups and will assist in facilitating the filming of participant testimonials. They will help gather feedback, assist in evaluating program content, identify areas for improvement, and learn to document and share program methodology and outcomes. The coordinator will participate in team meetings to discuss project progress, share preliminary insights from community interactions, and contribute to strategic planning efforts. Outreach, education, dissemination, and recruitment are among the tasks expected from the coordinator.

The coordinator will also liaise with program staff and support the Program Analyst to review invoices, and submit claims regarding expenses and travel. The coordinator will learn to be accountable for preparing, editing, and modifying diverse documents, e.g., progress reports, proposals, etc. The coordinator will actively participate in various day-to-day operations as needed and assist with addressing complex and sensitive issues.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Four(4)years of related experience, education/training, OR a Bachelor's degree in related area.
• Skills to learn organization-specific and other computer application programs.
• Basic communication and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
• Ability to use discretion and maintain all confidentiality.
• bility to use sound judgment in responding to issues and concerns.
• Basic program and project management skills.
• Acquiring knowledge of applicable policy analysis techniques.
• Basic skills to analyze and research information and learn to synthesize large amounts of data with strong attention to detail.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $53,800 - $91,000 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $25.77 - $43.58

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
