DESCRIPTION

The Department of Medicine is responsible for fulfilling the teaching, research, and clinical missions of the University of California, San Diego and employees 486+ full-time salaried faculty members and 100+ academic appointees. Staff personnel include 600+ staff in 9 bargaining units, students, and volunteers. There are 250 clinical faculty practicing at multiple sites and hospitals.

Under general supervision of the Principal Investigators, the Research Program Coordinator will be implementing and oversee research proposals, awards, and transactions related to contracts and grants management. The candidate will be responsible for maintaining contracts and grant records in compliance with institutional and sponsor agency policies.

They will be expected to be involved through the entire life cycle of a research project from proposal to closeout. They will be managing the following: the preparation of IRB applications; staffing field researchers; apportioning resources to achieve study goals; being involved in project meetings, progress reporting, stakeholder meetings, and community and scientific board advisory meetings; preparation of manuscripts.

Under general supervision, develops and / or oversees research proposals, awards and / or transactions related to contract and grant management and maintains contract and grant records in compliance with institutional and research sponsor policies. Works on proposals of moderate scope such as single investigator NSF proposals where analysis of financial information or reports requires review of a variety of factors (e.g. budgets, salaries, expenses, etc). Receives assignments on project basis and fully analyzes problems, gathers data and information, and recommends solutions. May be eligible for delegated signature authority. Completes and approves transactions for signature by manager or other authorized institutional official.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Six years of related experience, education/training, OR an Bachelor's degree in related area plus two years of related experience/training.
  • Demonstrated experience formatting manuscripts for submission.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills. Demonstrated ability to develop working relationships within department. Ability to use sound judgement in responding to issues and concerns. Ability to use discretion and maintain confidentiality. Demonstrated initiative, creativity, and ability to work effectively, both independently and in a team environment, to follow through with superior attention to detail, and to complete tasks in a timely manner by a specified deadline.
  • Ability to speak, read, and write in Spanish
  • Knowledge of applicable federal, state, local, sponsor and institutional regulations, policies, and guidelines.
  • Knowledge of applicable compliance requirements related to use of human or animal subjects in research, financial conflict of interest, biosafety, etc.
  • Ability to manage a high volume of transactions.
  • Ability to perform moderately complex financial analysis and customized reporting.
  • Demonstrated competence in the use of spreadsheet and database software in financial analysis, fiscal management and financial reports.
  • Ability to maintain independent judgment; strong organization; communication skills; and a customer service focus. Communication skills; includes verbal, written and active listening. Service oriented and responsive to questions and requests. Ability to interact in a professional, resourceful, and courteous manner.
  • Maintains current knowledge of compliance regulations in all areas of research administration.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of generally accepted accounting, fiscal and reporting principles.
  • Basic knowledge of administrative analysis and research operations. Acquiring skills in developing and implementing processes and systems. Familiarity with the administrative and operational implications in a program.
  • Experience or familiarity with grant proposal preparation and submission. Knowledge of contracts and grant guidelines.
PREFERRED QUALIFIACTIONS
  • Demonstrated experience with UCSD systems including Ecotime, Oracle Procurement, Concur, Kuali, etc.
  • Enthusiasm for learning and a genuine interest in scientific research. Willingness and ability to learn new skills, research methods, and scientific principles.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS
  • May be asked to work occasional overtime hours during busy seasons.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $72,809 - $106,050 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $34.87 - $50.79

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
