Child Support - Remote in ND - Customer Support Specialist

Team ND supports a blended workplace model which embraces home-based, remote employees. This position will telecommute. Candidates must currently live in North Dakota. Some travel may be required.

As a Customer Support Specialist for ND HHS Child Support, you are the first point of contact for people with questions about the child support program. Your calm and helpful responses will help reduce callers' frustration and stress as they navigate a complex process.

In a typical week more than half of your time will be spent directly assisting customers via phone and email, addressing inquiries about child support from parents, financial institutions, and other agencies. You will also provide information to callers about available self-service tools, research cases to ensure accurate records, and update data as necessary. Additionally, you will interpret support judgments, as well as compile and reconcile payment data for assigned cases. The core working hours are from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday.

To thrive in this position, you need to be compassionate, patient, and adept at understanding others. A strong financial background and the ability to explain complex financial ideas in a simple manner are essential. Additionally, you should feel at ease handling phone calls and transitioning between tasks smoothly, all while delivering exceptional customer support. The ideal candidate will be a critical thinker with excellent communication skills, a keen eye for detail, and strong problem-solving abilities.

ND HHS Child Support administers the statewide program as required by law. Services include location of parents and potential parents, establishment of paternity, establishment and enforcement of court ordered child support and medical support obligation, receipting, and distributing support payments, and guiding customers through the process.

To be considered for this position, you must have an associate degree with emphasis in business, or customer support and two (2) years of work experience in a financial sector which includes experience in account reconciliation and one (1) year of customer support experience.
  • OR a high school diploma (or GED) and three (3) years of work experience in a financial sector which includes experience in account reconciliation and two (2) years of customer support experience.
This position requires proficiency in computer applications using Windows and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, Outlook, PowerPoint).

Experience working in a call center environment with a financial background is preferred.?
