Responsibilities

GENERAL PURPOSE:

This position serves as administrative support for the University of Rochester Center for RNA Biology (CRB), in coordination with the Center for RNA Biology (CRB) Senior Project Coordinator, and works regularly with the Center of Excellence in RNA Research and Therapeutics (CERRT) administrative lead at Albany to achieve the goals of the University of Rochester CERRT.

This position would be 50% University of Rochester CRB and 50% University of Rochester CERRT, reporting to Drs. Eric Wagner and Lynne Maquat, and working closely with the CRB Senior Project Coordinator and the University at Albany CERRT administrative team.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Center for RNA Biology (CRB) Administrative Assistance :
  • Works under the guidance of the CRB Senior Project Coordinator:
  • Maintains and updates CRB documents. Compiles updated funding, slides, and reports as requested by CRB Leadership.
  • Assists with the annual report to the RNA Society describing CRB salon funds usage, and helps to submit the annual RNA salon funding application.
  • Maintains the CRB website, including updates to faculty collaborations, opportunities, photos, and news items.
  • Assists with special faculty, speaker, postdoc, or staff visits initiated by CRB Leadership.
  • Assists with the CRB Director's calendar and travel. Attends staff and administrative meetings regularly.
Center for RNA Biology (CRB) Coordination :

Works under the guidance of the CRB Senior Project Coordinator to facilitate projects and initiatives, including:

Assists with the annual RNA Symposium, including:
  • Attends Symposium Organizing Committee Zoom meetings.
  • Consolidates registration reports.
  • Maintains sponsorships, registrations, and abstracts.
  • Follows up with sponsors, speakers, and presenters.
  • Assists with on-site needs for the annual symposium.
Assists with administration of the fully virtual RNA Collaborative Seminar Series, including:
  • Maintains the roster of current members, points of contact, and documents for all RNA Centers.
  • Updates collaborative resources (logos, charters, slides, run-of-show, and training docs).
  • Posts annual seminar schedule, distributes announcements, and serves as back-up for Zoom Producers.
  • Maintains RNA Society-sponsored Zoom account.
Center for Excellence in RNA Research and Therapeutics (CERRT) Administrative Assistance:
  • Works with the Albany CERRT Administrator and University of Rochester Center for RNA Biology (CRB) Leadership:
  • Documents, collects, and generates workforce development metrics to assess Center outcomes.
  • Assists with annual reports and other documentation to support sustained funding and expansion of the Center.
  • Promotes the CERRT by working with University of Rochester staff and faculty to generate publicity on traditional and social media platforms.
  • Coordinates and attends quarterly meetings with CERRT Steering Committee to assess metrics and provide program oversight.
  • Attends annual New York State Innovation Summit, if CERRT Leadership determines appropriate.
Center for Excellence in RNA Research and Therapeutics (CERRT) Business Administration:
  • In collaboration with University of Rochester administrative staff and faculty:
  • Coordinates student externships with local RNA-centric companies including management of student payroll and all associated accounting.
  • Manages and oversees seed money programs to promote entrepreneurial activities within CERRT laboratories.
  • Liaises with technology transfer office to coordinate intellectual property development and protection for potential RNA therapeutics developed in CERRT laboratories.
Center for Excellence in RNA Research and Therapeutics (CERRT) Workforce Development:
  • Coordinates with Albany CERRT administrative staff and faculty on developing workforce development programs and collecting University of Rochester metrics on program success for Center annual reports.
  • Organizes workforce development outreach events for the CERRT to increase academic-industry partnerships.
  • Liaises with University of Rochester and University of Albany government relations teams to promote CERRT activities and help secure stable long- term funding with the State of New York.
  • Special projects and other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Associate's degree required.
  • 3 years of progressively responsible experience in administrative support or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Proficiency in MS Suite, Filemaker Pro, virtual collaboration tools (Zoom, Box), Adobe, etc. required.
  • Office procedures, database entry principles, customer service and public relations principles, principles of math, mailing and distribution methods, training principles, leadership principles, intermediate to advanced budget administration principles, inventory and supply maintenance principles, and event planning required.
  • Strong critical thinking skills and proactive mindset required.
  • Ability to work in a dynamic and growing research environment required.
  • Strong communication, organizational, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills required.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and responsibilities with deadlines and to work independently, efficiently, and effectively, both individually and as part of a team required.
  • Capable of setting priorities, being highly organized, detail- oriented, and self-motivated required.

Pay Range: $21.36 - $29.90 Hourly

The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job.
