Job Duties

The Traffic Court Processing Deputy Clerk (Grade 8) is assigned operational responsibilities in a high-volume, fast-paced office with frequent deadlines. This position ensures the court's instructions are executed and legal documents are prepared with accuracy and in accordance with state and local policies. You must be committed to providing excellent customer service to a diverse population. A Deputy Clerk will participate in a scheduled rotation of court processing and counter duties.

All employees receive a 15% county salary supplement in addition to the state salary.

The Deputy Clerk in this position will participate in a scheduled rotation as a counter, office, and courtroom clerk. Duties will involve a wide range of technical and clerical responsibilities including but not limited to: entering summonses; compiling and checking the docket; issuing subpoenas; assisting the public on the telephone and at the counter; filing and checking case papers; typing restricted operator's licenses; issuing orders into and scheduling intake appointments for the Alcohol Safety Action Program (ASAP); assisting the judge during the calling of the docket; accessing fines and costs; updating case information in the case management system; issuing jail cards; preparing and issuing bench warrants and other court orders and fulfilling other duties as required. May include limited travel to the Town courts of Vienna and Herndon. Must be able to multitask and assume additional responsibilities as assigned by management.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent required. Most competitive applicants will have relevant court, business, or office related experience. Applicants should be detail oriented, highly accurate and organized. Must be excellent at multi-tasking and follow-up and have the ability to learn new tasks quickly. Must be willing to assist the public in a courteous and efficient manner and be a team player who assists others. Must have familiarity in the use of Microsoft Office Suite computer software. Prior data entry experience a plus and a minimum data entry speed of 30 w.p.m. is required.

Physical Requirements - Lifting, bending to retrieve files. Sitting in court or at the counter.
