As part of GCS, the Small Business Product Strategy and Card Features team sits within our Small Business Products & Blueprint organization. "SBS Strategy" is responsible for articulating the vision for the SBS product line and translating that into a tactical plan to enhance current products and build and launch new ones. Working across Card, Card Lending, Line of Credit, Banking, and Digital Experience teams, SBS Strategy aligns the direction and purpose of the Small Business organization, and the Director of Strategic Planning leads how moves into execution.

Working across Card, Card Lending, Line of Credit, Banking, and Digital Experience teams, SBS Strategy aligns the direction and purpose of the Small Business organization, and the Director of Strategic Planning leads how moves into execution.
How will you make an impact in this role?
The Director of Strategic Planning will:
- Influence the SBS product strategy, and use this strategy to prioritize product and feature enhancements and launches
- Work across Product Managers on the Small Business Card, Lending, Banking, and Digital Experience teams
- Intake submissions for tech investment planning, serving as a central point of contact for Product Managers and the GCS Strategy and Investment Planning office
- Use outputs of each planning cycle to set and update the SBS Products & Blueprint roadmap
- Publish this roadmap to collaborators across teams, and host a recurring meeting to track delivery, discuss capacity usage, and resolve any delays or issues
- Partner closely with Product Development teams in Card, Card Lending and Banking to make tradeoffs and solve capacity pinch points
- For Line of Credit and Digital Experience teams, meet regularly with Technology leads directly to make tradeoff recommendations and decisions
- Serve as a resource for Product Management and Development teams, bringing product strategy goals to life and guiding them through the planning process
Minimum Qualifications
- Ability to navigate the Small Business Products and Blueprint organization and engage and influence Product leaders
- Familiarity with American Express tech prioritization process; capability to serve as the single point of contact for Product Managers in the process, and bridge to the Investment Planning office
- Comfort in platforms such as JIRA and Clarity; ability to map initiative progress and translate findings for Product, Product Development, and other teams
- Understanding of engineering processes and workstreams, identification of potential capacity constraints and proposal of tradeoffs
- Negotiation skill to align tradeoffs across teams, partnering closely with Lean Process Management (LPM) and Product Development
- Project management (PMO) skills including content collation, deck building, workstream tracking, meeting facilitation
- Leadership skills to supervise and coach a hard-working Band 35 colleague to assist with the planning process and ongoing roadmap maintenance
- NY-based position (hybrid)
