Large-scale tidal wetland restoration undertaken by the Fish Restoration Program (FRP) in the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta and Suisun Marsh is meant to provide food resources and habitat for endangered and threatened fishes, but will it? Join the team conducting the effectiveness monitoring to answer that question! The FRP Monitoring Team is seeking an inquisitive, adaptable, and meticulous early career scientist who is enthusiastic about laboratory and field work. This position requires someone who can work 40 hours a week mostly in the laboratory in the Stockton office, with seasonally frequent field work aboard small boats (see duty statement).

Working as a Fish and Wildlife Scientific Aid provides an excellent opportunity to get your foot in the door within the Department, explore potential topics for further education or new career paths, and/or gain more field and lab experience. In this position you will learn how to identify over 250 groups of aquatic invertebrates, proper laboratory safety procedures, and a variety of boat-based field methods used to monitor the benthic and pelagic aquatic environment.

Working Conditions
Using a dissecting microscope and computer for most of the workday, 5 days a week, sitting in a laboratory setting. Fieldwork aboard a small boat several days a month. Field work involves kneeling, reaching and lifting gear up to 40 pounds, and may occur in inclement weather, rough water and require early starts and long working days. Must possess a valid driver's license, be able to operate a motor vehicle and equipment, and be prepared to travel using a State vehicle.

This position is located at the Bay Delta Region office in Stockton, California.

This position qualifies for Public Service Loan Forgiveness Accrual Credit .
