Our Houston-based client in the Oil & Gas Industry is seeking a Government, Public Affairs & Communications Specialist to add to their team for a project that is expected to last 1 year or longer. This is a hybrid role and offers flexible hours, but candidate must reside in the Coastal Bend area of Texas must live in the Corpus Christi / Coastal Bend area of Texas and be availble for community events and meetings. Our client (along with their partnering agencies) is evaluating the development of a low-carbon ammonia production facility along the US Gulf Coast, which would accelerate production and supply of low-carbon fuel to markets in the US, Europe, Japan and greater Asia. The proposed ammonia production facility would produce hydrogen and convert it into clean ammonia for transport to domestic and international markets with a target of achieving first commercial deliveries by the end of the decade.

The Stakeholder Relations Advisor-Coastal Bend will play a vital role in building and maintaining positive relationships between the company and the community. The primary objective of this position is to foster strong community engagement, understanding and cooperation while ensuring that the company's operations align with the needs and expectations of the local community in the Coastal Bend region.

Key Accountabilities
Community Liaison: Establish and maintain open lines of communication with government officials, community members and local organizations to understand their concerns and interests related to company's operations.

These engagements include:
  • 1×1, small groups, neighborhood groups, council/commission meetings, educational workshops, and town halls/poster sessions.
  • Act as a representative of the company in community events, meetings, and gatherings to promote a positive image of the company and enhance its reputation.
  • Stay up to date with local regulations and policies that may impact the company's operations.

Information dissemination/mitigation:
  • Facilitate the flow of accurate and relevant information between the company and the community, ensuring transparency and addressing any questions or misconceptions about company's activities.
  • Address any community concerns or complaints promptly and work towards finding satisfactory solutions that align with company policies and regulations.

Community Investment:
  • Collaborate with community leaders and organizations to identify opportunities for community investment, partnerships, and initiatives that contribute to the community's overall well-being.
  • Assist in the planning and implementing of community programs, sponsorships, and events that support social responsibility initiatives and positively impact the local community.

Environmental Stewardship:
  • Promote and support company's commitment to environmental sustainability and responsible resource management, ensuring the community is well-informed about the company's efforts

Basic Requirements:
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States as a U.S. citizen or national or an alien admitted as a permanent resident, refugee or asylee
  • 3+ years of experience working with community groups, political organizations, and/or non-government organizations internally and/or externally
  • 3+ years of experience with corporate communications, stakeholder relations and/or government affairs
  • Advanced level of communication skills (written, oral, and formal presentation)
  • Advanced level of public speaking skills
  • Advanced proficiency with MS O365 applications: Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Word, SharePoint,and Teams
  • Willing and able (with or without reasonable accommodation) to travel 50% of the time
  • Existing civic, community, or business connections in the Coastal Bend region

Preferred:
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Business Administration, Communications, related discipline or foreign equivalent
  • Bilingual in Spanish/English
  • 3+ years experience in energy, chemical or related industry


The target hiring compensation range for this role is $40-45 / hr. Compensation is based on several factors including, but not limited to education, relevant work experience, relevant certifications, and location.
