Job Duties
The Program Coordinator (Suicide Systems Coordinator) is responsible for building, facilitating, and educating partners as part of the cooperative agreement with the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) on youth suicide prevention (Garrett Lee Smith Grant). This position will serve as the contract administrator with various state and community level organizations providing contract oversight and technical assistance to sub-recipients; engage in self-directed research and awareness of emerging suicide and related injury and violence prevention issues; review, develop, and facilitate information sharing on the Virginia Department of Health website and IVPP landing page related to suicide prevention, intervention, and postvention as well as primary prevention, risk and protective factors, training opportunities, identifying connections between disparate content areas via a complex systems framework; and provide suicide prevention training to targeted populations.
The Virginia Department of Health offers 12 paid holidays, medical, dental, vision, and life insurance, retirement plans (including 401a Cash Match and 457 Deferred Compensation Plan) as well as sick, family/personal, and annual leave.
Minimum Qualifications
Experience with program development and planning
Experience with providing technical assistance to partners and stakeholders
Experience with contract management
Skills in training and ability to effectively present information
Possess skills to prepare technical documents and write reports
Possess excellent organizational skills, ability to set priorities, and work independently
Additional Considerations
Experience supporting community organizing efforts or leading coalition work
Bilingual
Prior experience in suicide prevention, intervention, and postvention
Experience in systems level public health work or operating from a complex systems framework
Experience with public health concepts including primary prevention programming
