The Office of Commercialization is looking to fill the role of Intellectual Property & Contract Compliance Program Director.
Responsibilities
The Intellectual Property & Compliance Program Director supervises employees in Commercialization with functions including decision support, patent protection, intellectual property and contract compliance, and reporting. These services facilitate appropriate information flow and maintenance of contracts, patents, copyrights, and records among researchers, licensing managers, outside counsel, governmental agencies and other parties to patents and licenses administered by FSU.
Reporting: Oversees a variety of reporting such as intellectual property/patent reports, start-up and licensee reports, general state reporting, federal reporting of Intellectual Property filed on federally sponsored research, AUTM reporting, and additional reporting and analysis for technology transfer activities and projects as needed.
Intellectual Property and Contract Compliance: Analyzes and manages communications from the receipt of an Invention Disclosure Form/Disclosure of Work through the entire prosecution of the patent application. Directs communication with faculty, corporate representatives and other stakeholders regarding IP issues and patent procurement. Supervises and performs docketing for all deadlines in the database for history and tracking activities and deadlines for contracts and intellectual property. Facilitates requisite paperwork for all aspects of domestic and foreign patent and trademarks applications and prosecution. Coordinates payment of maintenance and annuity fees. Serves as liaison with students, staff, faculty researchers, licensing managers and outside counsel to assist with the flow and exchange of information.
Compliance Database: Selects, implements, and manages the database for technology transfer administration, including contracts and intellectual property management and compliance. Ensures security and integrity of database. Coordinates computer support analysis and analyzes data extracts to ensure timely service, including troubleshooting and monitoring department problems, tasks, and deadlines. Work collaboratively with IT in the analysis, development, design and implementation of upgrades or integrated subsystems related to the technology transfer database.
Training and Documentation: Develops, updates and monitors department procedures and training materials pertaining to docketing, IP and Contract Management, IP and Contract Reporting, and the use of database software to increase departmental efficiency.
Relationship management: Takes a pro-active approach in handling job related activities to include teamwork, interaction with departments and vendors, keeping up with commitments, predicting when circumstances may prevent commitment(s) from being met and takes action to reprioritize assignments or modify tasks. Serves as liaison with students, staff, faculty researchers, licensing managers and outside counsel to assist with the flow and exchange of information. Resolves conflicts with faculty, staff, students, companies, and service providers regarding university and patent prosecution procedure and contract compliance.
Qualifications
A Bachelor's degree and six years of experience; or a high school diploma or equivalent and ten years of experience. (Note: a combination of post high school education and experience equal to ten years.)
