Overview and Responsibilities

Summary

We are seeking a dedicated Desktop Support Technician for our Information Systems Technology department. This position assists the enterprise user base with technical support of desktop computers, applications, and related technology. Support includes installation and testing of computer systems and peripherals within established standards and guidelines. Work is performed with moderate independence under the direction of the senior staff or management.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assists staff with the installation, configuration, and ongoing usability of desktop computers, peripheral equipment and software within established standards and guidelines
  • Repairs, reimages, maintains, and keeps inventory of IT equipment
  • Works with Help Desk, Network Operations and System Administration staff as appropriate to determine and resolve problems received from clients
  • Works with vendor support contacts to resolve technical problems with desktop computing equipment
  • Interact with numerous computer platforms in a multi-layered client server environment
  • Ensure desktop computers interconnect seamlessly with diverse systems including associated validation systems, file servers, email servers, computer conferencing systems, application servers, and administrative systems
  • Performs upgrades on systems to ensure longevity
  • Works with procurement staff to purchase hardware and software
  • Assists in maintaining technical asset tracking.
  • Performs other duties as necessary

Qualifications

Education and Experience
  • Technical school diploma, Community College degree or equivalent experience
  • 1-2 years Desktop Support experience in Microsoft environment.
  • Industry certifications (i.e., A+, MCP, etc.) preferred
  • Employment is contingent upon a background investigation

  • Able to sit at a computer for long periods of time

  • Occasionally moves equipment such as a personal computer or display weighing up to 25 pounds
  • Requires close vision to small print on computer and or paperwork
  • Requires sitting, walking, standing, talking or listening
  • Use computer and telephone consistently

Machines, Equipment and Technical Abilities
  • Activities require interaction with application software and operating systems to diagnose and resolve unique, non-recurring problems
  • Internet navigation and research
  • Internet, including knowledge of email transmission and communication
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Windows desktop operating environments, as well as exposure to industry products, terminology and trends
  • Microsoft applications including but not limited to Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, Access, etc.
  • Using common office equipment (e.g., phone, copier, fax, computer, etc.)
