Overview of the Position:

The IT Systems Administrator position will assist with design, implement, and manage hardware, software, and Azure Cloud infrastructure, including Windows server support, supporting and administrating cloud-based software, Active Directory and supporting Microsoft operating systems. This position will assist with managing the Hardware and software inventory, creating software automation scripts to push to department computers, Provide IT Support for hardware and software to the CDS Department employees.

Travel:

The Capital Delivery Services Department is comprised of multiple facilities located throughout Austin. If you are selected for this position, and meet the Driver Safety Standards in the City of Austin Driver Record Evaluation ( https://www.austintexas.gov/sites/default/files/files/Employment/new_hire_driver_safety_standards.pdf ) you may drive when necessary to multiple locations as part of your regular job duties. Otherwise, you are responsible for getting to and from these locations.

Hybrid Work Environment:

The City of Austin Telework Program is designed to empower employees and leaders to establish hybrid work arrangements that promote high levels of performance and engagement. The City of Austin has an established work arrangement under which an employee is scheduled to work at least 3 days per week at their designated worksite. Some positions may require additional time at their designated worksite.

90 Day Provision for Additional Vacancy:

This may include filling other vacancies with the same job title in other division/work locations within the City of Austin Capital Delivery Services Department. Decisions on assigned selection may be made at the time of hire based on the business needs of the department.

Preferred Qualifications
Preferred Experience:
  • Experience supporting, deploying, and managing Microsoft Desktop and Server Operating Systems.
  • Experience troubleshooting and supporting Mobile devices.
  • Experience creating Software and hardware automation scripts.
  • Experience managing a hardware and software inventory
  • system.
  • Experience managing an Azure cloud environment, Active Directory, desktop management, and remote support software.
Duties, Functions and Responsibilities
Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.
  • Monitor, troubleshoot, diagnose, test, evaluate, and make recommendations to resolve system problems as well as define disaster recovery plans and develop network test plans
  • Implement, configure, manage, administer, maintain and monitor software and hardware to include systems, applications, middleware, servers, and storage
  • Procure new software and hardware for systems, applications, middleware, servers, and storage technologies
  • Evaluate system performance and health checks by implementing tuning improvements and performing system sizing estimates
  • Contribute to the planning, forecasting, budgeting, procuring and implementing new system hardware and software including the retirement of existing systems and components
  • Assist with development of solution based cost analysis
  • Coordinate and communicate the installation, configuration, and maintenance of systems and components with customer departments and project teams
  • Monitor services provided by vendors to ensure service levels are met
  • Monitor and assist in management of equipment inventory
  • Implement system security procedures and ensure compliance of all security policies, procedures and standards
