The Ray laboratory at the Child Health Research Center, University of Virginia, seeks highly qualified applicants for Lab Specialist (varying levels).

The laboratory explores molecular physiology and cellular mechanisms that precipitate pediatric renal diseases, with a focus on understanding the pathogenesis of nephrotic syndrome, capillary permeability, and angiogenesis in pediatric kidney diseases.

-Lab Specialist Intermediate

The incumbent will be expected to maintain rodent colonies, set up and perform experimental procedures in animal work, tissue harvest and processing, cell culture, and assist in laboratory maintenance.

Qualified candidates should have a Bachelor's degree in Biology and at least six years of experience working with rodent models or a Master's degree in Biology with training in veterinary studies. Expertise in rodent surgery and procedures related to kidney and vascular functions is strongly desired.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education : Bachelor's degree.

Experience : 6 years of experience in a lab technician role. Master's degree may substitute for required experience. 9 years of lab-related experience accepted in lieu of degree.

-Lab Specialist Senior:

The incumbent will be expected to perform experimental procedures independently in cell culture, tissue harvest from rodents, molecular biology, development of methods and procedures, and assist in all tracks related to the maintenance of the laboratory.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education : Bachelor's degree.

Experience : 9 years of experience in a lab technician role. May substitute with Master's or Terminal degree plus 4 years of experience in a lab technician role and supervisory experience. 12 years of lab-related experience accepted in lieu of degree.
