The Department of Permitting Services is seeking a Customer Support & Outreach Manager ( Manager III ) to join their team. The position will be responsible for administration and management of permits in an assigned program.

Program Summary

The Division of Customer Support & Outreach is responsible for all administration and issuance of building, Land Development, and Zoning related permits, applications and licenses, information request pre-design consultations, and other specialty services.

The duties of the position will include but are not limit to:
  • Supervise and manage staff who are responsible for the intake/processing of permit applications; calculation of permitting and other associated fees and required financial securities; maintaining contact with customers during the review process; issuance of permits; and maintenance of files until permit closure.
  • Develop and disseminate goals and priorities.
  • Create and analyze statistical data related to work unit activities.
  • Assist the Division Chief on budgetary and other administrative matters.
  • Meet with builders, developers, architects, engineers, elected officials, and community/civic leaders to interpret regulatory requirements, resolve disputes, and provide necessary liaison.
  • Provide advice, guidance, and recommendations designed to elucidate and support divisional programs and regulations in written and verbal communication.
  • Modify existing program and create new programs in response to changes in federal, state, and local laws and regulations and programs requirements.
  • Perform other related duties as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

Experience : Five (5) years experience in a progressively responsible professional experience with permitting or regulatory activities.

Education : Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree.

Equivalency : An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.

Preferred Criteria

There are NO Preferred Criteria Assessments. All Applicants will be reviewed by the Office of Human Resources (OHR) for minimum qualifications. Those applicants who meet minimum qualifications will be rated "Qualified", placed on the eligible list, and may be considered for an interview. Employees meeting minimum qualifications of the same grade or higher will be placed on the Eligible List as a "Transfer" candidate and may be considered for an interview.

Preference for interviews will be given to applicants with experience in the following:
  1. Experience developing and implementing customer service initiatives to improve program, customer service quality, and customer service satisfaction.
  2. Experience supervising a team, managing and reassigning staff work, providing oversight and direction, evaluating performance, mentoring, and addressing performance.
  3. Experience conducting presentations, explaining detailed information, and conveying information to staff, customers, management, and various stakeholders.
  4. Experience developing a collaborative work environment and working with department divisions, unionized employees, and other agencies.
