What You'll Do:
  • Plans and administers the Ohio Department of Health's (ODH) strategic communications, marketing and outreach efforts and services related to campaigns/measurement as an official spokesperson for the agency.
  • Works closely with the chief of the Office of Communications and ODH leadership to formulate and implement communications campaigns with emphasis on public relations and key stakeholder outreach.
  • Monitors communications efforts to support the agency's awareness objectives and to enhance the Ohioans knowledge of public health campaigns in Ohio.
  • Advises the Communications chief and other executive team members on marketing and branding best practices, strategies and tactics.
  • Formulates and implements communication plans that support the agency's priorities and overall strategic plan.
  • Builds communications campaigns and targets key stakeholders to build understanding and support for the role of public health throughout Ohio.
  • Works with the chief of Communications and the executive team to provide corporate leadership and a communication perspective on the broader communications strategies and policies of ODH.
  • Advises assigned public information and electronic design staff on overall marketing strategy and guidance.
  • Works with creative services manager on the design and production of visual materials/graphics and audio-visual materials used to promote ODH and its programs.
  • Establishes strong relationships with contract vendors to execute marketing objectives.
  • Works with Department of Administrative Services (DAS) to manage the Request for Proposal (RFP) process to facilitate contract opportunities.
  • Develops collaborative working relationships with various programs within ODH so that staff with external-facing roles are able both to relay the communications strategy and serve as effective ambassadors for agreed messages.
  • Champions effective branding of ODH to ensure a coordinated approach across the organization and in printed publications, the website and the intranet.
  • As directed, serves as the office lead in the absence of the office chief.
Additional Duties:
  • Advises and consults with agency director and staff to develop and implement strategies for analyzing and evaluating current health program outreach and education efforts for ODH communications campaigns/measurement including advertising buys.
  • Provides input to supervisor regarding changes to existing methods and/or the identification of new methods for promotion of the department's programs/public health messages.
  • Works in conjunction with other areas of the department to develop innovative methods for strengthening communication among all ODH bureaus/offices and between ODH and local health departments.
  • Manages internal communications to employees.
  • Develops and presents information and educational displays, programs, materials and/or speeches to media and other stakeholders regarding public health communications campaigns/measurement.
  • As assigned, responds to requests for information, speeches and presentations regarding public health information.
  • Represents the chief of the Office of Communications and the department in meetings and contacts with various parties to promote ODH communications campaigns/measurement and public health messages.
  • Coordinates arrangements with media staff and stakeholders and evaluates development, preparation & dissemination of public information relative to public health campaigns/measurement.

Qualifications

  • 36 mos. exp. in field of journalism or communication dealing in public multi-media techniques & relations, public speaking, news writing, reporting & editing or technical report translation & communication dealing in public meetings
  • valid driver's license.
