The University of Minnesota School of Nursing and RE Lab seek an outstanding individual to serve as a mentor in the Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner STEERR mentorship program.

Duties: This position builds on the curriculum and materials of the STEERR (Strengths-focused, Trust building, Empowerment, Eliminating barriers and hierarchy, Relationality, and Reflexivity) mentorship program to provide individualized and expert mentorship to 2 - 3 mentees who are currently working as SANE nurses. Duties are detailed below. Other duties may also be assigned given project needs and the applicant's interests and expertise.

Logistic and Programmatic work (30%)
• Attends quarterly mentor meetings and annual fall retreat
• Schedules and hosts small group and individual meetings via Zoom
• Completes mentor onboarding and annual evaluation
• Support the recruitment of ethnically, culturally, and linguistically diverse mentors and mentees practicing in the SANE role in rural/underserved areas of Minnesota and the US
• Demonstrates understanding of and commitment to STEERR principles and curriculum through transformational interactions with SANE mentees and co-mentor

Mentoring in 1:1 and small group settings (65%)
• Mentors work with 2 - 3 mentees for the duration of a 9-month program period with an optional three-month extension
• Co-facilitates monthly group meetings based on the STEERR curriculum with mentor team group (comprised of two partner mentors and their 4-6 mentees)
• Collaborates with co-mentor to identify who will lead and guide agenda/discussion, this may include and additional monthly mentor prep meeting
• Schedules 60-minute case debrief with mentees within 48-72 hours of case
• In the absence of a case during that month, schedules and facilitates 1:1 individual mock case review (or alternative format) on a monthly basis to each mentee
• Provides individual mentee consultation utilizing Innovation Configuration map with trainee at September, January, and May 1:1 meetings to adapt training objectives
• Provides written and/or feedback on mentee development
• Records all Zoom interactions to facilitate evaluation

Miscellaneous (5%)
• Other tasks as assigned

Qualifications

All required qualifications must be documented on application materials

Required Qualifications:
• Active and unrestricted RN or APRN license
• 2+ years working as a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner
• Experience and knowledge in forensic nursing including clinical and ethical considerations
• Certification as a SANE-A and/or SANE-P (IAFN certification preferred; state-level and AFN certification accepted)
• Experience working respectfully with diverse colleagues and patients
• Demonstrated commitment to health equity and decolonized approaches to mentorship

Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience as a supervisor or educator of health professionals, particularly SANEs
• Familiarity with programmatic considerations for SANE programs, such as billing and protocols
• Familiarity with best practices and variation within SANE patient care and SANE program practices
• Ability to guide nurses from different states and geographic areas, including differing state laws, resources, and health systems
