Virginia Retirement System (VRS) is seeking an analyst to join the Portfolio Solutions Group (PSG), one of three investment units, working alongside Public Assets and Private Assets. The PSG team plays a crucial role in the implementation of asset allocation decisions. As the Portfolio Solutions Senior Investment Analyst, and PSG member, you will actively engage in the portfolio management process, contributing to informed decision-making. Crucial PSG areas of focus that guide investment decision making include risk management, liquidity modelling, multi-asset class research, macro strategy, and diversifying strategies. You will have the opportunity to present your insights to our staff, Investment Advisory Committee, or Board of Trustees. Your role is essential in realizing our mission of securing the financial future of public sector employees.

Job Duties:

• Support the objectives, strategies and execution of the PSG function as directed by senior team members
• Develop and maintain quantitative models for investment risk management and total fund liquidity analysis
• Perform regular reporting and in-depth analyses on portfolio risk and liquidity metrics, providing data-driven insights and recommendations
• Conduct multi-asset class research to identify and propose actionable investment ideas
• Assist in the development and implementation of internal diversifying strategies, with a focus on systematic approaches
• Create and enhance portfolio management tools using programming skills (e.g., SQL, Python)
• Prepare and deliver clear, concise presentations on PSG objectives and performance to internal and external stakeholders
• Collaborate with various asset class teams, operations, legal, etc. to ensure cohesive portfolio management, communication, and strategy implementation across the organization
• Support special projects and bespoke modeling requests to address individual asset class program needs or broader portfolio shaping decisions
• Contribute to the development of procedures and internal control documentation to enhance efficiency and standardized processes
• Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in business, finance, economics, mathematics, computer science, or similar field required; an equivalent combination of education and experience may also be considered
• 0 to 7+ years total experience in investment management or capital markets
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Curious individual, with interest in advancing technical knowledge of investments management, analysis, modeling, and research
• Superb work ethic, attention to detail, team orientation, and commitment to excellence
• Self-motivated, organized, and can independently follow-through
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Additional Considerations:

• 3+ years in investment analysis, or similar role preferred
• CFA, CAIA designation and/or Masters degree in business, finance, economics, mathematics, computer science, or similar field preferred
• Prior experience with Barra, Aladdin, or similar risk system preferred
• Advanced VBA, SQL and/or Python coding skills highly preferred
• Experience in a variety of asset classes, including equities, fixed income, FX, private markets and derivatives preferred
