About the Position:

The Virginia State Police is seeking to hire a Program Support Technician Senior in our Criminal Justice Information Services Division at State Police Headquarters in North Chesterfield, Virginia. The successful candidate will support the Civil and Applicant Records Exchange (CARE) Section by determining if applicant(s) have been charged or found guilty of a crime that may prohibit employment around children, the elderly, or disabled in accordance with §19.2-392.02 of the Code of Virginia; prepare a written record of research; collect, review, and examine documents, and determines whether or not specific information conforms to existing legal provisions relative to lawful employment; conduct background check requests requiring out of State research, federal or military agency crimes research; and notify criminal justice agencies in instances of applicant warrants and the Sex Offender Registry (SOR) for applicants with registerable Tier Offenses.

Minimum Qualifications

•Considerable knowledge of office practices and procedures.
•Working knowledge of State and federal laws pertaining to the dissemination of criminal records, barrier crime statutes for employment, and their equivalent; of State and federal criminal history databases; of Virginia Criminal Information Network (VCIN)/National Crime Information Center (NCIC) required; of data analysis; and of office practices and procedure.
•Skill in the operation of computers and using Microsoft Office applications and databases; and in organization and time management.
•Demonstrated ability to research and compare and contrast data in interpreting criminal arrest and disposition information; to analyze and interpret policies, procedures, State and federal automated records and criminal history data; to formulate conclusions and provide recommendations; to provide attention to detail and organization; and to communicate effectively orally and in writing in English with staff, external agencies and officials, and the general public.
•High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
•Must be VCIN certified which requires either U.S. citizenship or a lawful permanent resident of the United States and eligible for naturalization.

Additional Considerations

•Experience in retrieval of criminal arrest and disposition information preferred.
•Experience working in a public safety environment and with sensitive and confidential information preferred.
