Job Description

Under direction, with broad latitude for independent or unreviewed action or decision, performs highly difficult and responsible professional work and/or supervisory work of ordinary professional difficulty and responsibility in the field of psychology.

SUMMARY OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Provides psychological evaluation, intervention, and support to patients enrolled in the medical weight loss program
  • Addresses psychological issues, body image, self-esteem, social support, quality of life
  • Screens for and provide treatment and referrals for some eating disorders
  • Creates a safe, therapeutic environment for patients with obesity
  • Utilizes motivational interviewing and other evidence-based techniques to support lifestyle change
  • Participates in development of treatment plans in coordination with medical provide and registered dietitian
  • Develops differential diagnoses for patients, ensures proper referral to other team members as needed
  • Coordinates with psychiatrist and PCP when needed to manage patient's overall care
  • Participates and leads various group interventions, including support, emotional eating, and body image groups
  • Provides documentation of clinical services as per departmental guidelines
  • Makes referrals for case management services for a complex population that faces many barriers in the community
  • Participates in continuing education and/or other appropriate activities to maintain current licensure
  • Keeps up to date on emerging advances in weight management treatment approaches
  • Conducts evidence-based psychological testing as necessary
  • Supervises and trains psychology interns and externs
  • Other duties as assigned


Minimum Qualifications

1) Doctoral degree (e.g., PhD, PsyD, EdD) in Psychology from an American Psychological Association (APA) accredited program, accepted by the NYSED.

2) Valid license and current registration to practice as a Psychologist issued by the NYSED; or

3) Proof of passing licensing examination and proof that completed license application and all supporting documentation have been submitted to NYSED, which leads to licensure and registration, within six (6) months.
