Job Description

Under direction, with broad latitude for independent or unreviewed action or decision-making, performs responsible professional and/or supervisory work in the field of psychology. In addition to performing duties of Assignment Level I at a more difficult and responsible level, also performs the following tasks:

Examples of Typical Tasks:
1. Supervises the work of unlicensed psychologists and other subordinate staff in the areas of diagnosis, therapy, and research, and coordinates their activities with the work of other professional workers.
2. Evaluate and develop habilitation plans and treat individuals for addictions, cognitive impairments, and neuropsychological disorders.
3. Administers therapy in difficult atypical cases, which may include individual, group, and family counseling and/or therapy.
4. Coordinates training programs and conducts case conferences and seminars for training purposes.
5. Gives formal and informal instruction to psychologists and psychologists-in-training on diagnostic, therapeutic, and research techniques.
6. Conduct in-service training programs by organizing and staffing conferences and seminars, drawing up curricula, and evaluating the efficiency of programs.

Departmental Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Provide direct clinical care and psychological services under the supervision of an Associate Unit Chief (AUC) or Unit Chief (UC) in various modalities, including, individual psychotherapy, family therapy, group therapy, psychological testing/assessment
2. To conduct crisis assessments, diagnostic and psychosocial assessments
3. To develop appropriate treatment plans for patients and maintain timely and suitable records and files or test results
4. Serve as an active member of an interdisciplinary treatment team and consult with other disciplinaries regarding diagnoses, prognoses, interventions, and recommendations for the disposition of individual cases
5. Provide consultation to medical students and psychiatry residents and other disciplines as needed regarding psychotherapy, psychological assessment, behavior management, and treatment planning
6. Provide clinical supervision to mental health trainees (medical residents, psychology interns/externs, social workers, and paraprofessional mental health workers)

Minimum Qualifications

For Appointment to Assignment to Level II:
1. Valid license and current registration to practice as a Psychologist issued by the NYSED; or
2. Proof of passing licensing examination and proof that completed license application and all supporting documentation have been submitted to NYSED, which leads to licensure and registration, within six (6) months.
