Responsibilities

We are seeking a highly motivated and dedicated Research Assistant to join our team at Florida State University in the Department of Nursing. The successful candidate will work closely with Dr. Artur Queiroz in advancing research efforts aimed at HIV prevention for men who have sex with men (MSM), with a specific focus on substance use, harm reduction and sexual health.
  • Assist in overseeing and managing day-to-day operations of research studies.
  • Assist in recruiting subjects and scheduling data collections.
  • Collect data via surveys, interviews, observations or other methods according to established research. Learn use of Qualtrics, Nvivo and/or SPSS for data collection and management (training will be provided if necessary).
  • Perform data entry. Clean and process data. Provide summaries on research and results.
  • Assist in the development and submission of research protocols to ensure compliance with IRB regulations.
  • Prepare and organize documents required for IRB submissions and protocol amendments.
  • Track IRB submissions, approval status, and correspondence.
  • Coordinate participant payment processes, including obtaining approvals and distributing payments.
  • Maintain accurate records of participant payments and research-related expenses.
  • Assist in budget development and financial reporting for research projects.
  • Liaise with IRB and finance offices to address protocol and financial matters.
  • Administer research interventions with appropriate training.
  • Assist in managing study budget tracking and making purchases.
  • Prepare /create materials for community events and other study activities.
  • Participate in community-based events or recruitment (during daylight hours and with another person).
  • Make outbound calls to recruit/ provide study information/collect data, etc.
  • Actively track the individual status of participants and oversee research assistant recruitment tracking.
  • Perform mailing and emailing of study correspondence (informational and thank you letters, newsletters, brochures, etc.).
  • Use effective recruitment via social media and other online recruitment methods.
  • Educate populations of interest about community studies, and assist in the registration process.
  • Direct engagement and follow-up efforts to recruit community members into the project.
  • Field/Answer, monitor, investigate, track, and direct communications (e.g., calls and e-mails) from residents and participants regarding the ongoing studies.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree or four years of experience related to the duties of this position.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of and ability to interpret and apply related federal, state, and local laws, ordinances, rules, and regulations.
  • Knowledge of applicable computer applications and basic computer functions.
  • Knowledge of electronic data processing as it applies to purchasing activities.
  • Prior research, clinical trial, or research design experience.
  • Spanish and Portuguese language fluency (written and/or spoken).
  • Ability to demonstrate effective customer service skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Ability to meet project deadlines.
  • Ability to prioritize, organize, and perform multiple work assignments simultaneously.
  • Highly detail-oriented.
  • Able to think critically, problem-solve, continually learn, and provide thoughtful insight.
  • Must have well-developed communication skills (both oral and written) and be able to work effectively in teams.
  • Must be punctual; regular meetings will be scheduled. Anticipate a flexible and predominantly in-person schedule with some remote work.
  • Proficient in Microsoft applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Willing to actively engage in the community with a sense of confidence and competence.
