Additional Information
This is a term-limited appointment for six months. At the end of the six months, the appointment will terminate and there will be no eligibility for Reduction in Force (RIF) benefits.
Background Screening
Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings. Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.

Responsibilities*
- Oversee the operation of a research laboratory conducting studies across human skin or animal tissues representing skin fibrosis-related diseases under the supervision of lab faculty in the Department of Pathology.
- Develop, design, and conduct large-scale research experiments with samples from multiple projects; review progress and evaluate results.
- Analyze, compare, and evaluate various courses of action, and make independent decisions on significant matters, free from immediate direction, within the scope of responsibilities.
- Formulate research methods and suggest options for improving quality; identify potential problems, recommend, and implement solutions.
- Train students in technology applications, equipment operation, and laboratory techniques; explain and demonstrate capabilities, operations, limitations, and outcomes.
- Coordinate data collection and screening and verify the accuracy of data.
- Conduct data analysis, interpret results, and implement research methodology based on the outcome of the analysis.
- Present and discuss research findings with the Principal Investigator for dissemination to sponsors and for publication purposes.
Required Qualifications*
- A Doctorate in a relevant field of expertise, or a Master's degree coupled with equivalent professional experience.
- Over 10 years of experience in a pathology research laboratory.
- Demonstrated experience in laboratory operations.
- Comprehensive knowledge and proficient use of histopathology techniques and quality control processes, including fixation, embedding, sectioning, histochemical staining, immunostaining, and whole-slide imaging.
- Prior experience with molecular biology, genomic techniques, mammalian tissue culture, and next-generation sequencing platforms is highly desirable.
- Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail, particularly regarding lab management tasks, personnel oversight, and adherence to experimental protocols.
- Excellent communication skills, with the capability to engage effectively with all levels of staff and external contacts.
- Solid understanding of laboratory safety protocols and potential workplace hazards.
