Job Description

The Canine Genetics Laboratory is seeking a Senior Research Specialist to assist with studies on inherited disorders in dogs and genetic testing for canine hereditary disorders. Specific duties include isolating DNA from blood and tissue samples, performing genotyping assays using a variety of methods, performing biochemical assays on dog tissue samples (including protein gel electrophoresis and western blotting), performing quantitative RT-PCR on tissue samples, and preparing samples for microscopic analyses that include in-situ hybridization, immunofluorescence, and structural analyses. The individual will also assist with accurate record keeping, sample filing, reporting results of genetic testing to clients, and maintaining lab and office order and cleanliness.

Shift

Hours/shift: Monday-Friday 8am-5pm

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and at least 2 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary

Preferred Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree in a Life Sciences field and a minimum of 2 years of experience in a research laboratory setting are required. Successful candidates will have excellent organizational and time management skills.

Five years or more of research laboratory experience is preferred. The candidate should work well with other team members in the laboratory and fill in for others in the lab when necessary.

Anticipated Hiring Range

Salary Range: $53,500-$56,500. Salary will be commensurate with experience.

Grade: GGS-9E
