Responsibilities
The Scientific Research Specialist will oversee silicon detector quality control (QC) for the FSU HEP group's contribution to the High Granularity Calorimeter (HGCAL) project. The incumbent is responsible for the timely delivery of QC results and recommendations to the CMS HGCAL sensors group and maintenance of sensor quality throughout the duration of the construction project. The candidate should be able to work independently and communicate effectively within the FSU and CMS research communities of experimental physicists, electrical engineers, and mechanical engineers.

Responsibilities
The Scientific Research Specialist will oversee silicon detector quality control (QC) for the FSU HEP group's contribution to the High Granularity Calorimeter (HGCAL) project. The incumbent is responsible for the timely delivery of QC results and recommendations to the CMS HGCAL sensors group and maintenance of sensor quality throughout the duration of the construction project. The candidate should be able to work independently and communicate effectively within the FSU and CMS research communities of experimental physicists, electrical engineers, and mechanical engineers.
Responsibilities include:
- Setting up and performing silicon sensor QC tests to measure depletion voltage, leakage current, oxide quality and thickness, and other process parameters.
- Working with the FSU HEP and CMS HGCAL sensors groups to identify and explore solutions to problems with sensor quality or sensor QC procedures that may prevent the project from meeting its detector performance targets or incur significant delays.
- Maintenance of custom test hardware and software as necessary, including oversight of repairs and improvements. Analyzing test results and communicating findings to the FSU HEP and CMS HGCAL sensors groups.
- Maintaining safe long-term storage of sensors and test structures in compliance with manufacturer recommendations and best practices. Handling sensor shipping and receiving. Keeping organized records of sensor location and properties. Maintaining lab infrastructure and stocking the lab.
- Training graduate and undergraduate students to perform QC tests and organizing shifts.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications and Experience include:
- Bachelor's degree and two years of experience; or a combination of post high school education and experience equal to six years. (Note: post high-school education and/or experience may substitute at a comparable rate.)
Preferred Qualifications
Preferred Qualifications and Experience include:
- Bachelor's degree in physics, materials science, electrical engineering, or related field
- Bare silicon detector measurements or design, especially in a research or R&D setting
- Cleanroom work
- Basic scripting and programming, especially LabVIEW and Python
- Design of small mechanical structures as part of device test stands
