HDR is looking for a Senior Geotechnical Project Manager in our Raleigh, NC office. They will typically work under our Transportation Geotechnical Section Lead and with the entire geotechnical and general transportation staff throughout North Carolina and Georgia. They will be responsible for developing internal guidelines and practices for a variety of geotechnical analyses and interpretation and understanding of subsurface conditions of infrastructure projects including but not limited to roadways, retaining walls, bridges, buildings, dams, soils and rock slopes, etc. Along with other senior staff, they will be mentoring junior staff on geotechnical practices and principles as well as project management. Opportunities exist to participate on high profile infrastructure projects in NC and across the United States as a geotechnical discipline lead or project manager.

Travel is required for site visits, client/project meetings, conferences, etc. Depending on the experience level of the candidate, responsibilities may also include technical review of projects outside of region and/or transportation industry, developing white papers on geotechnical topics to be used company wide, design software validation, development of project scope and fee estimates, and project management. Candidates must be capable of working independently or in a team environment assisting Senior Geotechnical and Project Management staff.

Preferred Qualifications

  • MS in Geotechnical Engineering
  • NC registered PE
  • Experience with NCDOT Geotechnical Engineering Unit policies and procedures
  • Recognized by NCDOT Geotechnical Engineering Unit and other units
  • Considered a geotechnical expert through publication and presentation
  • Active participation and membership in industry groups such as Deep Foundation Institute and ASCE Geo-Institute
  • Project management and staff mentorship/training experience
  • Local candidates are preferred


Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree
  • 10 years of experience
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license
  • Experience with Microsoft Office applications, GIS, and CADD, as appropriate
  • Experience with GeoStudio/Ensoft slope stability, settlement, seepage, and deep foundation response software, as appropriate
  • Experience with Bentley suite of geotechnical data management and visualization software (gINT/OpenGround/LeapFrog)
  • Knowledge of advanced numerical modeling techniques such as Finite Difference, Finite Element, Discrete Element, etc. and commercial software for advanced numerical modeling (Bentley, PLAXIS, Itasca FLAC)
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must
