The Aging and Long-Term Services Department (ALTSD) operates New Mexico's Aging and Disability Resource Center (ADRC), the State Ombudsman Program and Office of Indian Elder Affairs (OIEA). ALTSD is also the designated state agency for Adult Protective Services, State Agency Unit on Aging, and is an active partner in New Mexico's Aging Network. Through these divisions, ALTSD supports aging in place by providing services in homes and communities, establishes programs and offers resources to support caregivers, combat senior hunger, encourage healthy and productive aging, and build and sustain capabilities to meet emerging needs and challenges. OIEA manages the Indian Area Agency on Aging (IAAA), supports the efforts of the Navajo Nation Department of Health's Division of Aging and Long-Term Care Support (DALTCS) aka as the Navajo Area Agency on Aging (NAAA), and serves as the office within ALTSD to support New Mexico's 23 Tribes, Pueblos & Nations in the development of a comprehensive and coordinated service system of tribal senior centers and adult day services centers. OIEA¿s general operational functions include advocating for and facilitating state general funding allocations and department funding opportunities, IAAA/NAAA contract management of state general funds, technical assistance, training and assisting ALTSD in understanding and addressing the needs and challenges of the New Mexico's tribes aging population.

Why does the job exist?

Under the guidance of the Director and/or Deputy Director, this position provides operational support within the Office of Indian Elder Affairs utilizing an industry data management system, with a primary focus on contract management, compliance and monitoring of Tribal Provider's (senior and adult day centers) transactions, correspondence, agreements or other elements relating to the function of the division. This position will collaborate with other ALTSD divisions and within the Area Agencies on Aging (AAA) to ensure industry and ALTSD resources are maximized for the benefit of New Mexico's 23 Tribes, Pueblos and Nations elders, people with disabilities and caregivers.

How does it get done?

Responsible for contributing to the success of fiscal year funding expenditures and processing financial reimbursement transactions.
Provide contract management and compliance general support assistance.
Responsible for oversight, prioritization, management of assigned OIEA projects within a fiscal year.
Contribute to meeting OIEA performance metrics/goals and objectives, report progress and challenges on a regular basis.
Identify, define, and implement opportunities to standardize and improve OIEA operations and outreach.
Assist with Tribal Provider training, service definition and data management system troubleshooting, identify resources to aid effective IGA management
Attend industry trainings; facilitate or support OIEA presentations, outreach, work sessions or trainings, as needed.
General Duties & Responsibilities including aiding operation through record information management, financial liaison assistance, internal/external communications, standard operating procedures
development, performance measure reporting, and participating in outreach initiatives on behalf of OIEA.

New Mexico's 23 Tribes, Pueblos and Nations, their Providers (senior centers and adult day centers) Managers/Directors and the customers they serve.

Ideal Candidate

Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Experience in working with vulnerable/disabled/elder individuals or long-term care experience.
Experience working with Tribal governments, Tribal leaders, Tribal serving organizations and Tribal populations.
Experience working with interdisciplinary teams.
Cultural acumen, awareness, perception and ability to communicate and work with a wide variety of culturally/tribally diverse people.
Must be detail oriented and possess exceptional organizational skills, problem-solving skills, ethical skills, adaptability and continuous improvement, and critical and strategic mindedness
Knowledge of Older Americans Act and Administration on Community Living ("ACL"), New Mexico State Plan on Aging, State-Tribal Collaborations Act

Knowledge of New Mexico Tribes, Pueblos and Nations Provider Aging Network, New Mexico State Plan on Aging and State-Tribal Collaborations Act.
Experience with WellSky service and data management platform.

Minimum Qualification

Bachelor's Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Guidance and Counseling, Education, Sociology, Criminal Justice, Criminology and/or Family Studies/Services and four (4) years of any combination of experience including working with communities, working on health or social service related matters, social work/case management experience, behavioral health and/or health care. Employment Requirements

Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certification within 90 days of employment.

Working Conditions

Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT). Extensive personal computer and phone use. Some travel required.
