The Student Services Coordinator provides leadership and support for initiatives to improve the campus climate for graduate students, with particular emphasis on inclusion programming and student development. Responsibilities include planning, coordinating and executing programs that meet the needs of a diverse graduate student population and supporting an inclusive and thriving community. The coordinator effectively plans cultural and community events, including venue reservation, participant registration, and catering arrangements, and supports initiatives by researching and compiling retention information and event data. The coordinator manages a variety of programs and contributes to collaborative projects with a focus on inclusion and diversity, including collaboration with the Graduate School's Ombuds Office in the areas of outreach and programming. This position also serves on the Graduate School generalist team, providing drop-in advising, referrals, and front desk coverage. Occasional evening and weekend work required. Reporting directly to the Director of Student Services, this individual routinely interacts with a diverse population of students, department personnel, faculty and others on behalf of the Graduate School in a variety of capacities.

Required Qualifications

- Bachelor's degree with and/or relevant experience
- Demonstrated work experience in areas including, but not limited to, student services and/or program development, advising, training or related fields
- Excellent organizational, communication, problem-solving and interpersonal skills
- Experience planning programs and events from concept to implementation
- Demonstrated experience and commitment to diversity
- Demonstrated ability to work independently, manage multiple competing priorities, adhere to project timelines, and exercise confidentiality when working with sensitive issues
- Proven ability to cultivate positive working relationships, foster teamwork, and support collaboration
- Proficiency in working with computer software such as the Microsoft Office Suite.

Preferred Qualifications

- Master's degree preferred
- Prior experience developing and implementing diversity and inclusion programs and initiatives
- Professional certification related to diversity, equity, inclusion and/or belonging topics
- Experience and strong interest in supporting diverse constituencies in complex higher education settings
- Experience working with graduate students or non-traditional students
- Familiarity with Virginia Tech resources, policies and procedures.
