Job Summary: Supervises an Automotive Service Center. Responsibility for the sale of gasoline, auto parts and accessories, and performance of minor automotive repair. Supervises subordinate employees.

Duties and Responsibilities:

- Responsible for the operation of the Automotive Service Center. Opens and closes the service station in accordance with established procedures and assures efficient operation of the location. Responsible for the security of merchandise, change funds and cash receipts. Establishes schedules of work and determines priorities; makes assignments, provides on-the-job training, answers questions and resolves problems of subordinates; grants leave; assures adequate coverage of area at all times and provides input concerning work performance review. Ensures EEO principles and policies are carried out in performing personnel administration functions.

- Orders merchandise. Receives and inspects incoming merchandise, verifies quantity ordered, and signs receiving reports, assures items are priced and that shelves are neatly and safely stocked. Displays, replenishes and maintains merchandise in a presentable condition, and advises superior of damaged or slow moving items.

- Personally performs or is responsible for the performance of the following:

  • Initiates Special Order of parts required for repair of customer vehicles based on work requirements, and for automobile accessories requested by customer. Follows-up with vendor or appropriate office concerning receipt/delivery of items; notifies customer upon receipt. Maintains log on orders and parts received, maintains catalog in current status by recording periodic price changes, discontinued items, etc.
  • May prepare work orders for patrons for work to be done on vehicles (cars); indicates name of customer and cost according to official price list. Counsels customer on automotive service needs and resolves automobile service questions.
  • Takes daily meter readings of pumps and "dip-stick" readings of gasoline and storage tanks; checks for presence of water in tanks and uses hand pump to rid tank of water. Dispenses gasoline, motor oil and additives, as required. Maintains records of fuel and oil issued and inventory of gasoline and other supplies on hand.
  • Prepares Daily and Monthly Worksheets for selling departments concerning sales, expenses incurred and net profit, obtaining information from pertinent documents processed and records maintained.
  • Sells automotive parts, supplies, accessories as well as tires, and assists customer in the selection of merchandise. Provides customers with product information concerning specific items as well as new or related items in which customer may be interested. As necessary, completes forms to register tires with Department of Transportation. If requested tires are not in stock, completes special order form and takes deposit.
  • Receives cash, credit cards or other authorized payment for items sold; obtains patron's signature where required. Operates a cash register and is responsible for cash accountability. Completes Daily Salesperson's Cash Report.


- Ensures adherence to policies and procedures for security of cash and stock and assures area is kept clean and orderly.

- Exercises tact, good manners and courtesy when serving and assisting customers. This will be expressed by tactfully responding to patron inquiries and assisting patrons in a prompt and friendly manner.

- Performs other related duties as assigned.

TRAINING REQUIREMENT:

Associate must receive Hazardous Material (HazMat) training within 90 days of hire per Department of Transportation regulations.

Shifts to include Monday - Saturday (Saturday rotation), Sunday's off

GENERAL EXPERIENCE: 1 year responsible experience in clerical, office or retail sales store work of any kind in which the applicant has demonstrated the ability to perform satisfactorily in the position to be filled.

AND

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: 1 1/2 years progressively responsible experience in retail sales performing the kind of duties which constitute the principal work of the position to be filled.

SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE Study completed in a college, university, or junior college above the high school level may be substituted on the basis of one-half academic year of study for 6 months of experience. At any level, specialized experience may be substituted for required general experience.
