TxDOT"s Beaumont District is looking for a Transportation Specialist to join us in our Beaumont Distirct Maintenance office. In this role, you will assist with budget tracking, MMS and other maintenance functions. Salary Plan/Grade:

  • Transportation Specialist I (B19) : $48,244 - $76,028/yearly
  • Transportation Specialist II (B20): $51,158 - $81,351/yearly
  • Transportation Specialist III (B21): $54,278 - $87,046/yearly
  • Transportation Specialist IV (B22): $57,614 - $93,138/yearly

Position Description

Provides technical expertise and coordination for transportation programs involving design, building construction projects, construction of transportation systems, traffic operations, maintenance of highways and facilities, or bridge inspection and appraisal in accordance with Department standards. Assists with project planning and the development of policies and procedures for area of responsibility. Work requires contact with governmental officials, consultants, contractors and private entities. Employees at this level perform work independently on assignments; however, all unusual issues are referred to the supervisor.

Essential Duties:

Transportation Specialist I:

  • Assists in prioritizing and scheduling projects.
  • Assists with administering and monitoring district maintenance contracts and service agreements.
  • Assists with project assignments and determining work requirements to complete project plans and coordinates scheduling

    to accommodate projects already underway
  • Coordinates communication between district/division/Department of Public Safety and other external entities.
  • Coordinates maintenance material purchasing
  • Coordinates programs and projects to enhance efficiency and streamline operations.


Transportation Specialist II:

The above mentioned responsibilities and:

  • Serves as coordinator responsible for coordination of advanced engineering/architectural projects from

    initiation to completion.
  • Assists in prioritizing and scheduling projects.
  • Assists with administering and monitoring district maintenance contracts and service agreements.
  • Assists with project assignments and determining work requirements to complete project plans and coordinates scheduling

    to accommodate projects already underway.
  • Coordinates and performs interim and final inspections to identify deficiencies.
  • Coordinates design work among TxDOT entities
  • Coordinates maintenance material purchasing
  • Develops and monitors budgets.
  • Provides technical expertise and coordination for maintenance operations including prioritizing projects, monitoring

    correspondence and writing memorandums and reports.
  • Represents the Department at various meetings
  • Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.


Transportation Specialist III:

The above mentioned responsibilities and:

  • Consults with Department personnel, manufacturers and/or vendors regarding equipment operation, design, installation,

    equipment failure, complex repairs or replacement recommendations.
  • Ensures compliance with specifications for devices; safety laws, rules, and regulations; and the Texas Manual on Uniform

    Traffic Control Devices.
  • Implements proper traffic control procedures and safety precautions at construction sites to preclude traffic congestion

    and accidents; identifies utility locations and directs use of proper equipment.

  • May serve as a lead worker and the related tasks.
  • Oversees the Maintenance Management Information System.
  • Oversees the Pavement Evaluation System.


Transportation Specialist IV:

The above mentioned responsibilities and:

  • Evaluates and analyzes highly complex design issues.
  • Performs complex data collection, evaluations, analyses, stufies, inspections, forecasts, assessments, and/or plan development.
  • Provides technical assistance in resolving construction problems related to contract administration.
  • Inspects construction methods, workmanship and maintenance procedures to ensure contractors build, install, maintain and repair trafic control/data collection related equipment or facilities in accordance with plans, specifications and contract requirements.
  • Inspects roadwats and evaluates road conditions.


Minimum Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor's Degree in a related discipline. Relevant experience may be substituted for education on a year per year basis. Substitutions for Minimum Qualifications

Experience:

Transportation Specialist I: 2 years transportation design, construction, traffic operations, maintenance, bridge inspection experience. (Experience can be satisfied by fulltime or prorated parttime equivalent).

Transportation Specialist II : 4 years transportation design, construction, traffic operations, maintenance, bridge inspection experience. (Experience can be satisfied by fulltime or prorated parttime equivalent).

Transportation Specialist III : 5 years transportation design, construction, traffic operations, maintenance, bridge inspection experience. (Experience can be satisfied by fulltime or prorated parttime equivalent).

Transportation Specialist IV : 5 years transportation design, construction, traffic operations, maintenance, bridge inspection experience. (Experience can be satisfied by fulltime or prorated parttime equivalent).

Licenses and Certifications : Valid driver's license. This position requires driving a state vehicle.
