Description
The University of Chicago’s Department of Pediatrics, Section of Critical Care Medicine, seeks Pediatric Palliative Medicine full-time faculty at any rank for its growing Palliative Care Service. We especially welcome applicants with an academic interest and/or potential for research-based program in a field relevant to clinical practice, medical education, quality improvement, and/or policy-based interventions, and those with experience normally acquired in approximately 3 years post fellowship experience. Other duties include active contribution to teaching and supervision of medical students, residents and fellows. Opportunities for leadership roles may be available to candidates with appropriate skills or experience. Academic rank and compensation (including a generous package of fringe benefits) are dependent upon qualifications.
The Palliative Care Team is housed in the section of Pediatric Critical Care and provides consults to inpatient and select outpatient areas with a focus on care of children with life-limiting illness. The Palliative Care Team also supports education and training of nursing staff, medical students, residents, fellows, and faculty in the application of palliative care.
The Section of Pediatric Critical Care has 16 full-time faculty members, a fully accredited fellowship program, and a 30 bed PICU. Faculty members are actively involved in research, quality improvement, and medical education initiatives. The PICU has approximately 1600 annual admissions with continued annual increase in volume over the past 5 years. We are the only level I Pediatric Trauma Center on the South Side of Chicago and the hospital is designated a Magnet hospital by the American Nurses Credentialing Center, a national honor that recognizes nursing excellence. Additionally, we are an ELSO Center of Excellence at the Gold Level.
Prior to the start of employment, qualified applicants must: 1) have a MD, MD/PhD, or equivalent degree, 2) be BC/BE in Palliative Medicine, and 3) be eligible for permanent medical licensure in the State of Illinois.
