Position Responsibilities:

The Department of English in the College of Humanities and Sciences welcomes applicants to apply for an hourly position as an Administrative Assistant.

The Administrative Assistant role supports the mission of the VCU Department of English by providing administrative office support, assistance to program directors, and maintaining past and present course information.

Position Responsibilities
• Communicating with English majors, graduate students, and department faculty.
• Coordinating of alumni contacts
• Maintaining archival course content (syllabi, course descriptions)
• Assisting the Associate Chair with course scheduling
• Receiving and filing department mail and packages
• Welcoming visitors to the Department of English
• Organizing and maintaining the appearance of the English office suite and conference room
• Referring non-routine program inquiries to an appropriate director
• Reserving and scheduling meeting rooms
• Assisting with department events
• Compiling data on instructor effectiveness
• Performing other duties as needed

Required Qualifications:

- Knowledge of etiquette, protocol, and conventional social amenities
- Excellent effective communications skills, both oral and written
- Ability to work independently; a self-starter with a high level of motivation, creativity,
and proactivity
- This position requires candidates to have a strong customer service philosophy and
to be able to deliver quality service to students, faculty, and administrators during
high traffic and high pressure cycles throughout the academic year
- Excellent organizational skills to prioritize work and handle multiple assignments.
- Experience building social media channels and executing social media strategy for
maximum engagement
- Ability to work in a diverse work environment
- Proficiency in GSuite and Microsoft Office applications
- High school graduate or equivalent

Preferred Qualifications:

- Graduation from an accredited college or university preferred
