This position will provide administrative support to the agency head and the college. Successful candidate will represent the President’s Office and the College with professionalism and will maintain confidentiality in all matters pertaining to the President’s Office, the College, and the local college advisory board.

Job duties include:

  • Performing administrative functions of the Office of the President such as coordinating the President’s calendar and planning special events
  • Serves as contact and provides all administrative support to the Southwest Virginia Community College Advisory Board, particularly the Board Chair
  • Prepares meetings minutes for various committees
  • Responsible for purchasing and travel operations (including planning and confirmation) for the Office
  • Develops, prepares, updates, and maintains a wide variety of correspondence and files
  • Serves as coordinator and planner for annual graduation event
  • Communicates with alumni, donors, and other stakeholders on behalf of the President and College
  • Other duties as assigned


This position requires a one-year probationary period for both new hires and transfers.
Special Assignments
May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.

  • Knowledge of agency, VCCS and state programs, policies and procedures;
  • Ability to interpret and implement policies;
  • Knowledge of research and analysis methodology;
  • Ability to prepare quantitative and narrative reports;
  • Excellent information technology and telecommunication skills;
  • Ability to think quickly and independently, and to make sound recommendations and decisions;
  • Ability to work independently and with others;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills;
  • Problem solving skills and ability to multi-task and prioritize work tasks.

Additional Considerations
  • Prior experience as a senior administrative assistant
  • Experience with PeopleSoft and Chrome River software
  • Experience in higher education setting
Operation of a State Vehicle No Supervises Employees Yes Required Travel
