Under the direction of a Transportation Surveyor Party Chief, incumbent will provide technical expertise, knowledge and ability to perform wide variety of land surveying work in a field and office setting. Collect field survey data utilizing a variety of survey equipment, process field survey data, point cloud registration, extraction, and all other duties necessary to deliver complete survey products and deliverables to North Region Office of Surveyors'customers. Collaborates as part of a project team and acts as a subject matter expert between Surveys and other Caltrans functional units. Must possess a valid driver's license when operating a state owned vehicle. Possession of a valid FAA Part 107 license is highly desirable.

Utilize various software: Trimble Business Center, Microstation, AutoCAD Civil 3D, TopoDOT, RealWorks, Cyclone, UASMaster, POSPac, ArcGIS, Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Acrobat Pro and other supporting software to register, extract and classify data to create georeferenced orthorecified images, point clouds, and 3D surface models in support of the UAS, mobile and stationary LiDAR scanning efforts.

Eligibility for hire may be determined by your score on the Transportation Surveyor (Caltrans) exam. For those who do not have current eligibility (e.g., transfer, permissive reinstatement, or voluntary demotions) and/or who will be new to state civil services employment, you must be on the state examination list to be eligible for these positions.

Working Conditions

Position is located in Marysville, Yuba County.

Incumbent must be able to work in the office in a climate-controlled environment under artificial lighting. Field work requires the ability to work in a variety of weather conditions, from extreme heat to extreme cold, around moving vehicles and equipment. Travel is required to complete UAS and MTLS missions across the North Region. Travel may include overnight trips ranging from 1-4 days.

This position may be eligible for telework. The amount of telework is at the discretion of the Department and based on Caltrans's evolving telework policy. Caltrans supports telework, recognizing that in-person attendance may be required based on operational needs. Employees are expected to be able to report to their worksites with minimum notification if an urgent need arises. The selected candidate will be required to commute to the headquartered location as needed to meet operational needs. Business travel may be required, and reimbursement considers an employee's designated headquartered location, primary residence, and may be subject to CalHR regulations or applicable bargaining unit contract provisions. All commute expenses to the headquartered location will be the responsibility of the selected candidate.

New to State candidates will be hired into the minimum salary of the classification or minimum of alternate range when applicable.
