The Assistant Branch Chief is responsible for managing the operations of the Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STD) Control Branch. The incumbent provides leadership and facilitates collaboration with Branch management, staff, and other key stakeholders (e.g. Local Health Officials) regarding statewide public health initiatives and program development and evaluation activities. Duties include understanding and application of state and federal contract policies and procedures, oversight of strategic planning, human resources and staff development, investigations and analysis, and fiscal and administrative procedures to assure accomplishment of program objectives for the treatment, prevention, and control of STI's, HCV, HIV and mpox. The incumbent provides direct supervision to two Project Policy Analysis Manager I positions, Research Scientist Supervisor II, Staff Services Manager II, and four Health Program Specialist I positions. There may be at least 20% travel to and from Sacramento, CA and Richmond, CA.

The incumbent works under the general direction of the Chief of the STD Control Branch.

This position is eligible for hybrid telework and is required to report to the headquarters office with minimal notification. The amount of telework allowed is at the discretion of the Department and based on Telework Policy and Procedures.

This position is headquartered in Sacramento, CA. The incumbent will be required to report to the headquarters office on their first day. All commute expenses to the headquarters office will be the responsibility of the employee.

All employees who telework are required to be California residents in accordance with Government Code 14200, and may be required to report to a CDPH office, when needed.
