Job Description
Purpose:
The person in this position will assist the Director of Risk Management in the day-to-day operations of the department. The position requires the ability to oversee the management of claims, work closely with NYC H&H Office of Legal Affairs, medical and nursing staffs. Additionally, this position will assist in the development of educational sessions on risk reduction and assist in regulatory compliance.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
• The Assistant Director is charged with and responsible for:
• Provide preliminary clinical review of all new Notices of Claims, request QA reviews from the involved department(s) and report the review findings at the Quality of Care Review Committee.
• Conducts chart reviews to develop a written timeline of events for risk management and regulatory reviews.
• Primary responsibility for responding to risk management and medical legal inquiries from the clinical staff.
• Provide assistance with inquiries from law enforcement, district attorneys and government agencies.
• Attend committee meetings as necessary.
• Attend various departmental QA committee meetings.
• Draft hospital policies and procedures as appropriate
• Coordinates all medical-legal discovery requests for cases in litigation.
• Coordinates responses to Subpoenas and Summons & Complaints related to medical malpractice cases and law enforcement criminal investigations.
• Responsible for assisting in the investigation of sentinel event reviews, analysis of quality assurance reviews.
• Assist in education such as new resident education, grand rounds education, etc.
• Perform all duties in alignment with the mission, vision, values, and behavioral expectations of NYC Health + Hospitals.
Minimum Qualifications
1. A Master's degree in Arts or Science with a specialization in hospital administration, health care administration, administrative medicine or in public health when conferred for a program in hospital administration, from an approved college or university; or a Baccalaureate degree; and,
2. One (1) year of administrative experience and background; or,
3. An equivalent combination of training, education and experience in related fields and educational disciplines; and,
4. General knowledge of policies and programs utilized in the operation of a health care facility, ability to assimilate and analyze data, to recommend action based on analytical findings, and to assist in the solution of complex problems in health care administration and management.

This is a highly confidential position and requires someone with maximum discretion, excellent interpersonal skills and the following:
• Minimum of 3-5 years of risk management experience in the acute care setting.
• Strong computer skills: Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
• Computer literate in the electronic medical record (Epic)
• Strong organizational and interpersonal skills required.
• Critical thinking skills required.
• Good communication skills and excellent writing skills required.
