Responsibilities

The Florida State University School of Dance invites applications for a full-time tenure-track Assistant Professor of Dance specializing in Lighting and Visual Design. This position will also include the title and duties of Director of Production. The successful candidate will be a collaborative, collegial partner prepared toward with our current faculty and staff to prepare our students for success through an understanding of the integration of performance, scholarly, and creative activities and disciplines.
  • Teaching in areas of lighting, production and visual design. Candidate areas of expertise may allow for additional elective courses in specialty areas.
  • Mentoring students, especially as a member of graduate committees.
  • Lighting all School of Dance productions.
  • Serving as the Director of Production. This would include working with the School of Dance Production Manager, Production Assistant, and others in supervising, coordinating, and implementing School productions.
  • Service on professional, state, university, college, and school committees as assigned or elected.
  • As a prominent research university, Florida State University expects faculty to establish, develop, and maintain a successful creative and research agenda. While we enjoy and expect creative collaboration on school or university projects, there must be a strong focus on developing a national or international reputation within the field at large.

Qualifications

  • A terminal degree in dance or theatre from an accredited institution.
  • At least five years of professional experience in lighting design, of which dance works should figure prominently.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A record of successful teaching at the university level.
  • A record of experience or teaching in additional areas of interest, such as costume design. projection design, film making, musical composition, or any area of dance practice.
