Responsibilities

The National High Magnetic Field Laboratory (NHMFL) seeks a qualified scientist to join our Ion Cyclotron Resonance (ICR) Program as research faculty, with special emphasis on development and implementation of FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable) data standards within the ICR Facility and adoption of those standards throughout the NHMFL. The candidate is expected to support external ICR users, attract new users, and develop high-impact applications of ICR mass spectrometry. Ability to bring new methods and technology to the NHMFL ICR User Facility is a plus. The candidate will collaborate with NHMFL staff, graduate students, and postdoctoral fellows, publish manuscripts, and prepare applications for external grant support. In addition, the successful applicant will work with ICR Program permanent staff to implement and promote improvements to our FAIR data practices, ensure that they remain state-of-the-art, and work with NHMFL staff to implement FAIR data practices throughout NHMFL. Candidates are expected to have a Ph.D. in a STEM field, postdoctoral training, and a record of significant scholarly activity in high resolution mass spectrometry and FAIR data standards. Experience in collaborative research, supporting users, or managing any shared research resource is desirable.

Qualifications

Academic doctorate or highest-level terminal degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate field of specialization or equivalent qualifications based on professional experience and otherwise qualified to perform assigned duties.

The NHMFL houses the world's premier ICR laboratory, with state-of-the-art FT-ICR mass spectrometers that operate at 21 T, 14.5 T, 9.4 T, and 9.4 T, for research in chemistry, materials science, engineering, geochemistry, biochemistry, and biology. Current areas include natural organic matter, emerging environmental contaminants, biofuels, top-down proteomics, lipidomics, metabolomics, and mass spectrometry imaging.
