Job Summary

Under the general supervision of the Undergraduate and Graduate Program Coordinators, provide administrative assistance and support to meet the operational needs of the Department of Agricultural & Resource Economics undergraduate and graduate programs. Act as the Student Advising Center's first point of contact for students, staff, and faculty with questions pertaining to the department's advising programs either responding directly or directing inquiries to the appropriate person.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Experience working with students in a degree-oriented program at a university level/college level.
  • Experience using web-based programs and tools in a student services or educational setting (e.g.,
databases, on-line tracking systems, student information systems).
  • Experience planning events of various levels of complexity.
  • Experience composing and editing documents and correspondence for accuracy, consistency of format and grammar, and professional appearance and style, while using standard business software applications including word processing, email, calendaring software and spreadsheets.
  • Excellent oral communication, customer service and interpersonal skills to communicate clearly, effectively, and professionally in person, by email and by phone.
  • Skills, initiative and resourcefulness to understand, research, recognize and resolve general problems.
  • Organizational skills to set up and maintain files.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Banner, DESII, ICMS, and other related campus and UC database systems.
  • Experience with working independently, taking initiative, and self-motivated.
  • Ability to organize work effectively to achieve timely progress on projects; manage multiple simultaneous projects, distributing effort among projects and team members as appropriate to meet project schedules and to manage heavy workload. Work as an integral team member to support organizational goals and objectives.
  • Skills to complete projects and meet business requirements with minimal supervision; take initiative to follow-up on projects and assignments. Ability to anticipate and recognize problems; work as a team member and seek assistance when necessary.
  • Skills and knowledge to recognize using discretion and sound judgment when managing confidential and sensitive issues and information.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and professionally, in oral and written formats; while paying attention to details and accuracy, including confirming information to prevent miscommunications.

Department Overview

The Department of Agricultural & Resource Economics is a large complex academic department with 24 ladder faculty, 6 cooperative extension specialists, 3 academic federation faculty, and 10 Unit-18 lecturers. The department provides instructional, research, and outreach programs. This position is part of a team of two who manage all aspects of ARE's undergraduate and graduate programs.
