Position Information

TxDOT's Bridge Division is looking for a Bridge Inspection Quality Assurance Engineer based in Austin, TX. This Engineer will help TxDOT ensure the safety of the traveling public, preserve our large financial investment in Texas bridges, meet and exceed the Federal Highway Administration's requirements for states' Bridge Inspection Programs, and help guide the overall direction of the TxDOT inspection program. Texas' inventory of roughly 57,000 bridges is more than twice that of any other state and approximately the same as the combined inventories of 21 US territories and other states. Salary Range (FY24)

B25 - 66,259 - 105,000

B26 - 72,886 - 110,000

B27 - 80,174 - 115,000

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: Mandatory: Bachelor's Degree in engineering or related science bachelor's or higher degree accepted by TX PELS

Experience:

Bridge Inspection Quality Assurance Engineer II

  • *5 YEARS engineering, transportation engineering, or related engineering experience

    (Experience can be satisfied by fulltime or prorated parttime equivalent)


Bridge Inspection Quality Assurance Engineer III

  • *6 YEARS engineering, transportation engineering, or related engineering experience

    (Experience can be satisfied by fulltime or prorated parttime equivalent)


Bridge Inspection Quality Assurance Engineer IV

  • *7 YEARS engineering, transportation engineering, or related engineering experience

    (Experience can be satisfied by fulltime or prorated parttime equivalent)


Licenses and Certifications:

  • Mandatory: TX Lic Prof Engr
  • Mandatory: Safety Impact Certificate


*Professional engineers licensed in another state in the United States , but not currently licensed in the State of Texas, must (1) meet the license requirements of the State of Texas Engineering Practices Act, (2) obtain a professional engineering license from the State of Texas within six (6) months of the date of hire, and (3) sign an agreement to that effect as a condition of employment.

Substitution

Related graduate level education may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis.

Extensive knowledge of

  • Structural engineering terminology, principles, practices, and methods and the application of engineering theory
  • Applicable testing methods, processes, and procedures
  • Computerized structural analysis techniques
  • Applicable industry safety standards, guidelines, and specification codes
  • Researching, analyzing, and interpreting policies and state and federal laws and regulations
  • Contract development and oversight
  • Communicating complex ideas and information clearly, concisely, and effectively Considerable knowledge of

    Applicable laws, rules, and regulations
  • Bridge inspection methods and procedures
  • The use of personal computers and applicable programs, applications, and systems


Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

  • Subject to environmental conditions; protection from weather but not temperature changes
  • Subject to inside and outside environmental conditions
  • Required to wear protective gear - respirator, hard hat, or other devices
  • Sedentary work: Lift up to 10 lbs. at a time and occasionally carry files/small tools
  • Climbing - ascending/descending ladders, stairs, scaffoldings, ramps, etc.
  • Walking - moving on foot to accomplish tasks: long distance/from one work site to another
  • Talking - expressing or exchanging ideas by spoken words
  • Hearing - perceive sound at normal speaking levels; receive information by oral communication
  • Close Visual Acuity - work includes data/figures; view a computer screen; extensive reading
