Job Summary:

The School of Medicine's Division of Pulmonary Sciences and Critical Care Medicine has an opening for a full-time Staff (unclassified) Research Services Clinical Science Professional (Entry - Intermediate Level) for the Burnham CoPARC resource lab. The Colorado Pulmonary - Alcohol Research Collaborative (CoPARC) focuses on investigations in the pathogenesis and treatment of pulmonary (respiratory) diseases associated with alcohol use disorders (AUDs).

The successful candidate will perform clinical research related functions which may include patient-oriented research or research conducted with human subjects. Patient-oriented research includes mechanisms of human disease, therapeutic interventions, clinical trials, or development of new technologies. Clinical Science Professionals may also assist with epidemiologic and behavioral studies and/or outcomes research and health services research. Research in the Burnham lab focuses on the impact of substance misuse, including alcohol and cannabis, on end-organ function, including these drugs' impact on pulmonary infections and lung injury, neuromuscular weakness, and neurocognition. We are interested in establishing mechanisms of disease related to substance misuse that can be translated into novel interventions and therapies to decrease the toll of substance misuse on human health.

The person hired for this position supports participant recruitment and enrollment into research protocols, involving managing study timelines, and clinical data collection including survey data. This role involves biological sample collection, processing, and analysis as part of a larger human subjects' biorepository. This person will work with Dr. Burnham to maintain research and laboratory protocols, related databases and engage with local and national collaborators in biospecimen and data distribution. This person supports activities related to approved human subjects' protocols including regulatory activities, budgeting, and monitoring study expenses, developing new protocols and standard operating procedures, disseminating research results, and grant preparation/reporting. Additionally, this person serves as the CoPARC Outreach Coordinator, seeking to strengthen community connections in the pulmonary-alcohol research community through novel services that enhance research and disseminate CoPARC resource content and availability. CoPARC aims to create and maintain collaborations between new and established alcohol research focused investigators.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Case report form completion, maintenance of study databases (including those required by NIH) and query resolution.
  • Collect, process, and store biological samples and data for research from studies.
  • Prepare and submit compliance documentation for the institutional review board.
  • Maintenance and expansion of CoPARC website.
  • Write and disseminate monthly collaborator newsletter, detailing research activities and updates.
  • Promote the CoPARC Research Studio Program, meant to enhance mentoring and network amongst alcohol research focused investigators.
  • Organize and promote an online seminar series to showcase both research and CoPARC progress, and unique opportunities for the alcohol research community


Work Location:

Onsite - this role is expected to work onsite at the Anschutz Medical Campus in Aurora, Colorado.

Minimum Qualifications:

Entry Level:

  • Bachelor's degree in any field.
    • A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year for year basis.


Intermediate Level:

  • Bachelor's degree in any field.
    • A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year for year basis.
  • One (1) year clinical research or related experience.


Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in biology, chemistry, or health-related field.
  • One (1) to two (2) years of clinical research or related experience.
  • Experience with electronic data capture systems (e.g., EMR or EHR and data management systems).
  • Experience with community engagement and outreach.

This is an open rank position and the starting salary range (or hiring range) for each rank are listed below.

Entry Level: $47,743 - $60,729

Intermediate Level: $51,956 - $66,088

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position may be eligible for overtime compensation, depending on the level.
