Job Summary:

The goal of the studies is to better understand mechanisms associated with heart failure in children and adults. This candidate will work with other PRAs, research coordinators, physicians, and PhD scientists to accomplish their goals. This candidate will have the opportunity to gain experience in anatomy and functional studies utilizing human hearts.

This position requires being on call approximately 4-5 days/week to collect freshly explanted human hearts. If collection happens outside work hours, comp time is provided.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Recovering explanted human hearts from the operating room at the time of heart transplantation.
  • Participating in the post-surgical dissection and subsequent physiological characterization of these recovered organs in a muscle bath system for Heart Failure Research.
  • Assessing the biochemical and pharmacologic characteristics of these explanted human hearts utilizing biochemical and molecular measurements.
  • This position also requires animal (rodent) work, including surgeries and molecular analysis.
  • The candidate will be expected to diagnose, and problem solve as it relates to the research project and muscle bath equipment, and collaboration with other PRAs, Sr. PRAs, and post docs in the lab.
  • This position requires being on call approximately 4-5 days/every other week and shared weekend call responsibilities to collect freshly explanted human hearts. If collection happens outside work hours, comp time is provided.
  • Post-procurement, the PRA's job will be to catalogue tissue and blood collected in REDCAP and store it appropriately. The PRA will be the primary contact for identifying where tissue/samples are located. The PRA may be asked to help search REDCAP to identify specific samples.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics, or related field.
    • A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year for year basis.


Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics, or related field.
  • Prior experience or background within an experimental or wet lab.

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally.

Anticipated Pay Range:

The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as $45,000 - $57,240.

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position may be eligible for overtime compensation, depending on the level.
